Cedar Rapids (CID) tied the monthly record high for February today (76F, set in 2017).

The tornado in Wisconsin came very close to Vince Waelti's house where his family was at. Missed his house by likely less than a mile. He was chasing this storm and was on this tornado when he realized that this tornado was going to track towards his house.

HRRR says major ice storm for central Illinois.

I wonder how much new snow hawkeye has gotten since his last report of 1.5 inches? I would imagine at least a few more inches of new snow.

Wow, you're doing well there. Just a few tenths here but heavier returns struggled to get in here until just now. It's caking to trees so wondering if power outages could become an issue when the higher winds hit.
Yeah, that's what I was worried about today, the temps at snow onset. Thankfully the snow is like pixie dust here and very little in the way of accumulation on trees and powerlines. Temp just below freezing (31F)

Just got our power back after a little over 3 hours in the dark. Internet is still down though.
-
Lost power here at around 8:20 PM. Worst of the winds just missed us to the north. There were winds up to 90 mph in Hiawatha. Houses across the street have power. Hopefully we'll get our power back soon.

The Cedar Rapids Airport got down to 47F last night, setting a new record low for the date. The previous record low was 49F set in years 1984 and 1997.

Very glad that most of Iowa didn't get hit by yesterday's derecho. Although the one yesterday wasn't quite as extreme as 8/10/20, it still did alot of damage based on reports. I would pass on any derecho, especially the extreme kind.
-
18z GFS has a derecho starting from western Nebraska at hour 174, traversing through Iowa at hour 186 and dissipating in South Carolina at hour 204. No way in the world that is verifying.

The 12z, 18z and 00z runs of the HRRR have consistently shown a potent wake low forming in SW Iowa.

DVN has rated the tor in their western cwa as an EF4...
After collaboration with a team of survey experts, we have determined a prelim. rating of low end EF4 for the tornado that tracked from Wapello into Johnson County IA. Max estimated winds around 170 mph. Max width around 600 yards. The EF4 damage occurred at a farmstead N/NE of Keota in Keokuk County, where a house was swept off the foundation. We are still finalizing additional details.
Yep, the second wedge tornado from that cell got the EF4 ranking after sweeping away a farmstead just N/NE of Keota.
-
This tornado has already been rated an EF3 by NWS Quad Cities. This is the Ottumwa/Hendrick tornado.

Has back to back high risks occured at this latitude within 5 days of one another before?
If I remember correctly it has happened back in May 2003. May 4, May 8 and May 10, 2003 all had high risks in the same latitude, albeit slightly south.

Wind was really intense from the second line of storms. Must have been 70-75 mph winds. Didn't lose power but lost internet for the time being.

Looks like the Des Moines office really blew it with this system. Widespread 4-6" of snow through much of central IA with no headlines. Ouch.
Yeah, storm overperformed big time.

18z HRRR much drier. Accumulations cut by half. Depth change shows only a dusting.

Well, hawkeye is for certain going to exceed 30 inches of snow accumulated this season since November. Also it's snowing cats and dogs.
