6Z GFS was a little closer for next week. Cold is muted and longer term looks warm
-
Looks perfect for peak-snow season in January

Gets plenty cold after next week's rainstorm on the GFS...but what about the next system? Another cutter?
Edit: Lol. System ends up in the Gulf. But, SER flexes it's muscles and despite a Miller-A track, we still just rain. I'm just about over it.

What a Shocker. Cutters and warm followed by cold and dry. On repeat.

That storm after the MLK holiday on the GFS seems intriguing as well…

No fantasy storms on this run of the GFS but I still see positive steps.

I think I’ve been “burned” by the models over ice storms a dozen times over the last ten years. I’m just always going to assume they’re overdoing it. Something’s changed to where ice just doesn’t happen here anymore

Jumped back up to 39 here. Hope @wncsnowand the other folks back home in McDowell get a little snow to stick before the freezing rain.

37 here in Asheville. Got up to 43

Yea. I see a lot of folks celebrating the cold dump out west. Sure, it's nice the cold is on this side of the planet for once but it will moderate by the time it gets here, if it actually ever makes it here at all. Just another crappy winter. Sure, we might score in Feb. But, I much prefer my cold and snow in Dec and Jan.

I'm assuming just rain here in Asheville for the weekend. But, still maintaining some hope for later in jan/early Feb.

Keep it up with the model play by plays, Met and WNCSnow. Appreciate it!

When's the last time one of these ice events came to fruition? I think the last major ice event I had was in 2003 or 2004. Lots of little glaze events but nothing major since.

Quite a SER showing up on the GFS. Parade of cutters and rain. Blah

You can tell things look bleak when people are quiet throughout the 12Z GFS run.
-
Hard to stay optimistic given how awful the past few winters have been. If we've been struggling up here, imagine how our piedmont and coastal friends are feeling. I'd just like one big storm to track. We haven't even had that in forever.
-
Haha. Got excited because I saw the "Hot Thread" tag and it's been a while since I've seen one of those around here. Unforutnately, looks like things aren't heading in the right direction. Still time but I'd just hate to punt the first half of January.

You know things are looking bad when Met is also negative. He’s usually my positive force on this board haha

Rainstorm after rainstorm. Precip doesn’t seem to be the issue but we can’t even get cold enough during January? Just disappointing

Yep. We’re going back into that classic winter pattern of “cold rain” and then dry when the actual cold shows up. Just an annoying last few years. Not even a threat to track for more than a day.

Really thought this first week of January would be a good opportunity for us. Alas, more of the same. At least it will be chilly
-
Chilly 19 for me. I'm still very intrigued by the Dec 28-Jan 4 time period for us. A mix of some upslope events and potential for more of a board-wide event.

I will say that time-period of Dec 28-Jan 3 holds some interesting potential for the WNC crew.

Haha. You and I have seen this play out too many times to count. It's just another winter of cold and dry, followed by intense rain and warm. It's a dud.
