Euro snow maps? Savoring storms like this where we are in great shape while the coast is nervous. Was the exact opposite the last storm.
Yea, I am curious for my area too.

Yeah, if we can get conditions to go clear and calm then the spots that typically radiate well will drop like a rock. 3.5° now.
Highpoint is 4 below zero. Just saw a gust reading of 38 mph.

I always love reading the ice reports from the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club (http://www.hriyc.org/current.html). Today's discussion was particularly detailed, not to mention optimistic about a winter reload toward the end of the month. They actually seem hopeful that the upcoming mild wx will improve conditions for them in the long run. If the ice is really a foot thick up by Barrytown, I'm definitely gonna make my way up there early this week to stroll atop the river for a while.
Interesting read.
Our main Lake in Highland Lakes...I saw 5 ice vessels on the lake today.
There is a medium group of people that have boats with skates/sails/
Told my wife...these are the people that appreciate winter and wind/boating.
I heard the ice on the lake near me is 20 inches deep.

Stuck at 4° like last night.
2 below zero here. Suspect the angle of cold air will favor the deep valley locations in the morning.
Honestly...sorta of a bummer I did not get below zero this morning for a low.
Impressive cold snap for sure...but not near my all time record low of -12 F a few years back.
If the winds slow down...maybe Walpack or Sussex get cold.

Low this morning was 0
high was 8
current temp is 0

I always get a kick out of people in general who feel the need to get the golden snow shovel award...”oh I got a lot more snow than that!” As if they affected that outcome some how if it’s even true, LOL. “Insecure much?” is what always comes to my mind. Still waiting on flakes here as far as I can tell glancing out the window.
A true snow weenie needs to take pride in something. Golden Snow Shovel awards will rank high.

It will be interesting to see who gets the following awards in this portal.
golden snow shovel & shaft zone awards.
light snow just started here.
best guess is 4 inches on my street.

My wife was requested to stay at her current position until April until they backfill her role at the hospital. As I am a home daddy, my wife agreed for the sake of keeping healthy relationships.

Hey Animal . I am totally new at this . I have been on the site a while but just used to read and lurk and have been trying to learn as much as I can from you guys that really understand the science but man this is hard . My kids bought me a weather station for Xmas because they know I enjoy this stuff so much and literally set it up an hour ago,,,lol to stay on topic those are just ridiculous temps u posted
that's totally great your kids got you a set-up. Use it for a year & if you still enjoy the science, spend what you can.
Made me recall the 1st time I saw snow in West Chester, PA.
My father called us boys & girls upstairs. We were from Miami, FL
1/2 inch of snow & my life took an amazing turn.
Enjoy it. Where are you located in rockland.

I checked my weather station stats this morning.
It's been an impressive month at my house for cold temps.
Honestly shocked compared to previous years.
Warmest temp afternoon high -54.9F December 5th
Cold max high - 12.5F December 28th
Warmest max low temp - 36.7F December 19th
Cold max low temp - 2.9F December 28th
High today - 17.7F
Low - 3.1 F
I use a Davis Vantage pro 2 station...as best as you can get compared to some other garbage people buy.

Made it down to 3 this morning for the low, still haven't touched or gone below zero yet. The massive piles of snow being made in a relatively short amount of time in the park with this temps is really something to see.
Positive aspect of this cold snap.
Mountain Creek has been blowing snow non-stop. The snow base should be really good by tomorrow.
Last season was a complete disaster in terms of days open. Thinking of hitting the slopes tomorrow.
Will take an epic January thaw to knock them down this season. The snow will come..I am told.
I was able see a cloud of white snow from my deck looking south west at Mountain Creek this afternoon.

Anyone have any snow left after today? I'm down to spots. Before it got dark the woods were still mostly covered but it has that late March look, you can tell it will be gone tomorrow.
No grass in the higher terrain.
3-4 on snow

On the snow blower scale for winter so far. An F for a grade.
not used yet.....
any indication on when winter sets in for snow?
Sorta now need to bank on a huge January to April for snow.
