  1. Is there any research on the quantifiable UHI at a station like PHL? I ask because in reality - the airport's footprint hasn't really expanded in over 30 years (much to the dismay of locals). PHL isn't DFW or PHX. PHL sits directly adjacent to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge and the Delaware River. To the northeast, it's mostly vacant land. And the closest "urbanized" areas, Essington and Eastwick have both seen population declines in the past 30 years. As a matter of fact, Eastwick is a shell of its former self, most of the neighborhood abandoned and reclaimed by nature due to white flight and serious flooding issues. There are certainly macro effects of UHI, one would assume, in which PHL is somewhat well-located to pick up, though not even that ideal given that directly south of PHL the landscape becomes quickly rural and non-urbanized. I guess I am just wondering how much UHI effect at PHL has actually contributed to the temperature increases in the past 30-40 years?
  2. Pouring sleet in center city. No more flakes (for now I hope)
  3. Massive nickel to quarter sized flakes in Center City right now. Wow. Keeps flipping between this and heavy sleet/snow mixed.
  4. That heavy snow band backing into Philly means business. Heavy snow and wind here now. Visibility just a couple blocks.
  5. Snow picking up in Center City. Visibility down to a half mile.
  6. Slow transition to all snow in Center City. Visibility down to about a mile with 70% snow/30% sleet
  7. As quickly as it cameth, the snow is goneth. Back to just sleet and light rain in Center City. Visibility briefly dropped with the snow in a heavy shower. Now back up and can see the tops of the skyscrapers.
  8. Snow mixing in Philly! Doesn't feel like this is the final changeover but a good sign.
  9. Continues to on-and-off pour sleet in Philly. A few flurries mixed in but probably just being generated at the lower levels where it's below freezing.
  10. Just absolutely pounding sleet in center city. Waiting for that changeover.
