Moisture stream is now coming from the northwest in Asheville, so this might be our chance.

So the NAM and HRRR are in huge disagreement, especially in lower elevations like Asheville. Anyone have thoughts?

Yes sir, that's one thing I have always loved about the mountain thread over the years. No overhyping storms, no meltdowns, level heads just taking it for what it is.

Some of the reasons are:

1) It's a smaller group. Larger groups always attract weenies, trolls, and idiots.

2) Lower stakes. We all typically see snow at least once every year, so each event doesn't feel like our only chance.

It's usually dead on, however, I'm North of it in Pendleton/Central and I'm rain/sleet. Too warm at the surface I guess, and tricked CC.

I just saw several blue flashes in Asheville. Not sure if it was lightning or transformers blowing (didn't hear anything). About 9 inches and absolutely pouring snow.

My entire extended family are Wilmington natives. A lot of them are trying to "ride it out," including my 83-year-old grandfather. He lives about five miles inland from Wrightsville Beach. My brother and I are really stressed out trying to figure out a way to convince him to evacuate. Should we care this much whether he evacuates? He has a small, but fairly sturdy house in a neighborhood where most of the big trees have already been felled by previous hurricanes (Fran, Bertha, Floyd). On looking at the projections, it seems that Florence will weaken quite a bit before landfall. If I'm misreading that, let me know, but he says he's lived through strong hurricanes before (see above). He's not particularly stubborn, just feeling the inertia to stay. Any thoughts?

I majored in in meteorology for a year before changing to journalism. I heard all the same things while I was in school, but I switched for other reasons to another very competitive field. However, I was fortunate enough to land a decent job with competitive pay and benefits three months after graduating.
