  1. Merry Christmas, Southeast Crew !!!

Yes, it snowed in Lizella, GA on Christmas.

I didn't see it fall, but some of my neighbors have the video proof.

I was up about 1:00 am and saw the little band incoming but it set up just south of me.

    A smattering of flakes,

    Is all it takes,

    For Southerners like us,

    Such happiness makes,

    It falls for a moment,

    And sticks for a  few,

    It alters our feelings,

    Enhances the view,

    We track it's incoming,

    With models and prose,

    Rejoice! "negative tilt",

    We mourn the, "warm nose,"

    But a  Maconites dream,

Primed with each flake that I see,

    Is the promise again,

    Of February, '73.

Haven't seen any follow up news on Frosty. Any word?

    Fellows:

We need urgent prayer for Big Frosty (Rodney).

He and his wife both contracted COVID about a month ago and he cleared it after a brief hospitalization and was back at work.   Unfortunately, the side effects came back last night with blood clots in the lung and pneumonia.  He is hospitalized today but not in ICU.

Rodney asked that he will appreciate prayer from everyone for a quick recovery.

There is no one else that has a higher level of interest in winter weather and knows his local climatology the way Big Frosty does.

To all, thank you for taking the time to be prayer warriors.   It is gratefully appreciated.  Thank you.

Or.....we all realize that Mack was the curse of the SE forum and his departure brings a 10 year run of 20+ inch snowfalls and below normal temps, including 6" of snow on Christmas eve.  Meanwhile in Iowa they're playing golf in January and rejoicing in the growing season being extended for 2 months.

    Thanks Mack! ^_^

It's also possible that the "South of 85" curse is specifically because of Mack and the country may now be faced with a new curse of "South of Hwy 20"(hwy that bisects Dubuque). We should all monitor 20-21 snowfall in Iowa and the midwest and if this hypothesis proves correct we will all chip in and buy Mack a house on the beach in Fort Lauderdale  !!!

And, anticipation will bring you back to post in the SE Forum, for sure, as we all love to watch a good tragedy, i.e, our GFS-inspired winters.

Enjoy the new environs, Sir !  New adventures are always great for the soul.

  4. 06z GFS closes off a low(weak) over southern Mississippi on Saturday morning which gives a little blue-radar stuff to northern parts of Alabama. Fizzles as it reaches Georgia as the low is squashed.  00z did as well, but just a little further north before squashing as well.  Neither Euro or CMC have shown this feature.

Curious to see if 12z has it today.

Getting reports on some Facebook pages of iguanas dropping from trees and even dangling.

The cold has stunned and immobilized them.

In the upper 30s this morning NW of Orlando.

"And this mornings's weather report, Bob, has us with sunny skies, 38 degrees, with a slight chance of iguanas........."

I had like 3-5”of sleet with a little snow in that storm.   It was a Tony special.

Sleet sounds good and yeah, he would love it.  And, it has been a while, and I think I posted iI in the banter thread a year or so ago, and I might have missed some update, but what's the story with Tony? No word from him in years.

    Glad to hear it !

Only benefit, I guess, is that you've got a lots of time to read our silly postings on the weather !

Our friend and board contributor Big Frosty from the Foothills of NC is having back spinal surgery this morning to have spacers and a rod put in to help lessen back pain associated with nerve compression.

Please cover him in prayer this morning for a successful surgery with no complications.

    Any update on Frosty's surgery?

  9. Reading this type of thing for quite a while now and haven't seen this term before.

    National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO

    .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)
Issued at 501 AM MDT Sun Oct 27 2019

The cold air has moved into northern Colorado overnight, and as
the airmass has moistened, temperatures in the moist layer have
remained warmer than -10C, resulting in super-cooled liquid water
hydro-meteors. Until the airmass becomes even cooler, freezing
drizzle will continue falling. Road temperatures appear to be
remaining just above freezing, so ice accumulation has been
    limited to elevated surfaces.
  10. Took a screenshot of this Satellite Photo from yesterday.

I was enamored with it so I showed it to my family.  Everyone sees something different, but tell me what you see off the coast of the Carolinas?

  11. Was trying to figure out the forcing mechanisms that make this frontal passage through the southeastern states and associated precipitation different than our usual "cold chasing rain" scenario.

Here is a helpful link describing the anafront scenario. https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/what-are-ana-and-kata-fronts/73473

Looks like the difference is the velocity of the cold at the surface is so fast that it shoots out ahead, with the attendant moisture being forced up and over the advancing cold.

  12. Dang.  The number of people that I now 'ignore' is getting out of hand.  Can the moderators please just take a minute to nicely touch some of them on the shoulder and say, "Hey, we like you, but read more, post less?" A little banter thrown in here-and-there in the discussion thread is fine, but folks, c'mon. And, I like to see something showing up that warrants it's own thread, but......just dang.

And.... the Saints were robbed.  That is all.

Some tantalizing possibilities showing up, yet not a creature is stirring here....

Well, we've all just got finished watching "Charlie Brown Christmas", and are reminded that there is a Lucy,.... and her attendant football........

That's why some folks aren't jumping on the long-range-cold bandwagon yet, although the indices seem favorable.

Looks like we have a good chance of snow 12/21-12/22 on the backside of a apps runner low

Yeah, I think so. According to the 00z FV3, vertically stacked lows at all levels pass right over on Friday. Surface temps are warm, but at elevation there should be something to see. Hoping to visit friends in Highlands this weekend so I think we may go up a day early now.

Yeah, main roads are completely fine, although my car thermometer dipped from 34 to 32 and flipped to 31 briefly, so things could go downhill if it keeps up.

She manages a luxury consignment store/boutique called JT Posh. Cool spot.

Sounds like just their kind of place! Hovering at 32/33deg here.
