Pictures coming out of NYC this evening are awful. They were completely unprepared for the snow. They're having their own commuteageddon. Judging by some of the photos, motorists may be stuck on the highway for hours.

It's only above normal for those in the dark blue stripe.
Yeah it's low for the mountains above 2000 feet for sure, but it's above average for the Shenandoah Valley. I guess it's average to slightly above for other areas---above for Frederick MD--and maybe slightly below for your area in Carroll.
I have to think Topper wasn't really making an educated guess when it came to Western Maryland and Allegheny Mountains.

If at some point in the next two years job for my wife took us as a compromise location to Hagerstown or thurmont, that’s better for snow than Baltimore on balance, right?
I would think both places would be significantly better. As you get into northern Baltimore County or into Carroll those places would be comparable and maybe better than Hgr or Thurmont. If you have elevation near the Catoctins that obviously helps even more. I lived in Winchester for years and Hagerstown "on balance" did much better but Winchester was better than Baltimore.

For you Maryland winter weather experts, I moved from Columbia to Owings Mills in September after spending about a year and a half in Columbia. (Lived most of my life in Winchester, VA.) How does the average/median snowfall compare between Columbia and Owings Mills? Believe my elevation is about 600 feet.
