+709 cases, +74 deaths, +44 total currently hospitalized.
So much for that 3 day downward trend of hospitalized patients..

Gov. Hogan just announced on a livestream with Washington Post that MD National guard has moved the cache of S. Korean test kits to an undisclosed source and is providing 24/7 protection of the kits to prevent any chance of the Feds from "acquiring" the materials.
I hope they did this re-location correctly. It requires three identical armored trucks to move the kits and only one armored truck has the test kits, and the others are empty. When the trucks get to the city intersection they all go separate routes. Plus a helicopter to track the trucks.

.... we did flatten the curve though. the whole point of staying home and socially distancing is to limit spread and not put a strain on hospitals. the disease still has to run its course through the community, our actions have just slowed that spread to more manageable levels.
what to think? what we are doing is WORKING. and people need to keep doing it. you slow the spread, let the disease fizzle out and things will slowly go back to normal. its a marathon, not a sprint. sooner people accept that, the better off everyone is mentally with staying home.
Thank you. I will go with this mentality. I prefer the optimistic viewpoint. I check the numbers everyday at 10 am or as soon as they're updated and every day I am looking for a decrease in the metrics. You are correct - its a marathon and maybe I should check once a week instead.

Another day and another increase in every metric. What ever happened to "15 days to flatten the curve". I just have this feeling that even if we stay this course the entire month of May the numbers will still keep going up. I don't know what to think anymore.

You can order a test for antibodies online now, $170. Requires you to schedule a blood draw at a local testing center. Not taking insurance but accepts HSAs and I'm guessing you could submit bill to insurance for reimbursement. I might do it just to see if I am a silent carrier. Found out through a friend who knows doctors in New Orleans who are using the same test (not through this company).
Interesting. It's tempting but $170 is pretty steep just to be curious.

Trying to find slivers of good news. Today's data of +509 cases in Maryland is the lowest daily increase since 326 new cases on April 6. But like weather models, one day does not make a trend.

NCAAT cancellation incoming most likely... A10/SEC/Big Ten/AAC have all canceled conference tournaments
There is no way this Tournament will happen at this point given the events of the last 24 hours.

Feb 2007 was a big exception but that was 13 years ago so figure the odds on your own.
Answer:
For 1 to 13 odds for winning;
Probability of:
Winning = (0.0714) or 7.1429%
Losing = (0.9286) or 92.8571%
"Odds for" winning: 1:13
"Odds against" winning: 13:1

It's really gotten bad when the most we can hope for in the climatologically favored snowless February is a potential rumble of thunder and wind shift in the middle of the night with overcast skies and little surface instability. Maybe a special radio show is in order?

Snow
in Mid Atlantic
You would give up a trip to Hawaii for that map? We had a tornado today and it’s snowing in Hawaii. Winter isn’t coming. It was only a TV show.

Meanwhile, there are two tornado warning boxes in our CWA. Maybe the immediate focus should be an early start to severe season.

Just a quick shower thought: When one clicks on the Mid Atlantic favorite button on the browser, and the Banter thread has the "Hot!" flair tag up top, and the Medium - Long Range thread's last post is 52 minutes ago, that pretty much sums up the current mood of model runs without further analysis needed.

This is also 8 days away... Things will change.
However, weekend rule 'would' verify. So we got that going for us. Which is nice.

As for next weekend storm, if it trends a bit better, this can be us:

My phone went off about 15 min ago. Thought it was an Amber alert. Snow Squall Warning until 2115! Holy smokes!
We did pick up a coating but the line is to our south and I'm sure I'll see areas that are white in my rounds tomorrow as the rates are impressive. Nothing like the Jan 25, 1985 event of course but at least I got an (official) squawk out of the box!
Snow squalls are no joke as anyone that lives where they frequent will tell you. You're driving along and the next thing it's like your windscreen is wrapped in a white blanket! It's quite a serious threat indeed!
Must have been an impressive event 34 years ago if you remember it to the day! Impressive memory!

Why is this still stickied? Just curious.

6 flurries over past 15 minutes in Towson. Enough to officially and technically welcome the snowfall of winter 2019-2020.

Hey all I have a random question. I have been on Android for a decade and just switched to the new iPhone 11. When on Android, I used an app called NWS NOW to very easily read the area forecast discussions from the NWS in lieu of a website bookmark (which made the discussion very easy to read in nice formatted text within the app without needing to zoom, etc). Does anyone know of an app for iPhone that would make it easy to read these discussions or must I revert back to a web page bookmark? And while I am asking, what app are you guys using for fast and immediate NWS weather alerts for iPhone? I am using Weather Line for regular weather status (I like the interface) and Storm Shield for alerts. But maybe there is a better app for nerds like us. Thanks.

And most importantly post some pics!

You know the weather here is boring when you start checking Tropical Disturbance 3 on the east side of the Cabo Verde islands 3 times a day for any sign of development. tl;dr: No further development.
At least the NFL starts tonight.

Going to go for the hat trick tomorrow.
