  1. Yeah at least they showed the potential versus under doing it!
  2. Even my parents house where my main station is, it hit 61.1 mph. For some reason it tends to miss the best winds sampling wise but it caught the good winds today!
  3. .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... -- Changed Discussion -- Low pressure exists through Northern New England today with its strong cold front pushing east of LI/SE CT by 8am. Damaging wind event quickly coming to a close across far eastern LI and far SE CT early this morning, with post-frontal wind advisory gusts of 45-50 mph subsiding to 30 to 35 mph by mid to late morning. Widespread wind advisory gusts were observed across the area early this morning, with high wind gusts across the south shore and east end of LI as well as coastal SE CT. Also a narrow area of high wind gusts developed through Essex/Union (57 kt gust at EWR) and into Brooklyn (58mph at Brooklyn mesonet) with low topped convective line. High pressure then builds towards the region this afternoon, and with the initial burst of strong cold air advection done, gusts should settle into the 30 to 35 mph range for this afternoon. It will be drying out with sunshine, but temperatures will be dropping through the day (50s to lower 60s early AM to 30s late PM) with modified polar airmass advecting in. -- End Changed Discussion --
  4. Yeah it was nuts what some of the models were suggesting. Like the gfs, it has a known history to go a bit overboard with how high winds might get. None the less, 68 mph out here was very impressive there's over 8,000 Island wide without power, a large chunk on my end of the island. Good job by Upton with wind amounts on this one.
  5. Until we see wind reports, would seem the high wind models were over done just a bit. Weren't able to fully mix down unfortunately For some areas.
  6. That's early Friday morning if I recall correctly right?
  7. This will be how some of us may see the bigger 60-75 mph gusts! Some of the higher res guidance does show squall line potential. This would increase the chance of bringing down strong and damaging winds, if even for a very brief time getting towards 11-13z from west to east.
  8. It's grouped with coastal areas I suppose.
  9. Gfs is going a bit too extreme imo hard to fully mix with such cold waters but it's also not fully impossible. If it can mix down fully, could be a 70 somewhere but I fully expect 60-65 in coastal locations especially eastern areas. With water temps in the lower 40s, the challenge is how much of the llj will be able to mix down in a strongly inverted low-level environment.
  10. Special Weather Statement National Weather Service New York NY 726 PM EST Thu Feb 17 2022 NYZ080-081-178-179-180300- Southwest Suffolk-Southeast Suffolk-Southern Queens- Southern Nassau- 726 PM EST Thu Feb 17 2022 Localized patchy dense fog is developing this evening with a few locations already reporting visibility down as low as a quarter of a mile. The dense fog is expected to remain localized and not wide spread. If driving this evening exercise caution by decreasing speed and leaving plenty of space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Also utilize your low beams as visibility can drop suddenly.
  11. 54 maxed out for me today. Ironically I was warmer this month at 58 when we got snow last lol
  12. Such a large temperature range right now from 50 at Montauk to 66 at Central Park. Cold ocean waters hard at work.
  13. Today's record highs for select few places. Central Park record high is 67 Islip record high is 68 Bridgeport record high is 65
  14. Upton back peddled lga and nyc might tie records today lol
  15. See, that's why I thinking snowman meant records broken possibly jersey south, at least with 50-80% chance of actually coming close if not breaking.
