Could it get to 360 days in many of our lifetimes?
I suppose it could, tho a daunting thought -

Ya it’s close to 50” here..and I’ll take that in a heartbeat over the 12” last winter lol.
lol indeed!

Average is average, and I’ll take an average winter here in a heartbeat. That will Seem absolutely enormous compared to last year. Hoping for an average (snow) winter here. I think it’s a good bet we get to average.
Nothing wrong with average!

Yup pretty wild day. Made it all worth tracking a storm that wasn't lol
Still fun tracking with you all! Total dud here on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket aswell. Not even a power outage. And a few downed limbs….
Could anyone explain what happened in the 11th hour that would have reduced severity in SNE and cause minimal rain fall (outside of Chatham and Nantucket’s rainfall)

Wow. No kidding. PWs mostly below an inch, outside of the Cape/isIands. That’ll do it.
Haven’t even received an inch on MV yet…

Beautiful day on the vineyard, partly cloudy this am but breezy and sunny for a few hours today. Cloud cover is rolling in but haven’t felt any gusts over 30 yet today

The number of strong wind events the Cape goes through each year gives them lots of practice. There will be issues but probably manageable by Cape standards.
Exactly it’s blows +40mph here multiple times a year.
What we aren’t accustomed to is hurricanes or at least we haven’t been for a long time. Was just speaking to my uncle about his and my parents parents remembering 38… for a while they took every subsequent tropical/ hurricane event very seriously. But slowly but surely every year since there’s been less and less of a concern or worry about hurricanes. NEnglanders overall are no longer prepared for big storms like our friends in FL

I have a flight leaving BOS and headed NE to Edinburgh at 9 pm tomorrow Winds don't seem too out of control at that point, but I'm admittedly not as familiar with the sustained/gust threshold for commercial airlines and what qualifies for a delay or cancellation...
Hrmmm that’s a bit close but you’ll be heading up and away from the storm…. Unsure really. any updates from airline?

Euro has 65 plus gusts outer cape. Daytime too. That would be a good chase with 30 foot seas to boot North side
Will South or North shore of Islands be more exciting to watch on Saturday?

Largest impact from my POV is the dews...I'm glad it stays east.
The went hurricane watch and trip storm for SNE

The people who want to see "big damage" simply do not understand and/or downplay the devastation that a redux of 38 would cause. They vastly underestimate the time it would take to get fully back to normal. They assume it would be a matter of a few days. The reality is the vast majority of people in New England are ill prepared for anything remotely resembling a redux of 1938.
this! considering the cost of the damages of '38 was in the 10s of millions (adjusted for inflation) the cost of a storm this size these days with incresed population and building density would be incredibly high.

The first pings of LEE swell are being picked up from bouys in the S and E New England waters. From Jeffreys ledge bouy (East of NH) to Nantucket bouy to Block island bouy . 13-14 second period from the SE currently couple foot swell . These will build all week . I find it cool how the ocean can pick up the energy from distant lee even some 1800 miles away .
that is super interesting! I was just looking at https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41001 East Hatteras buoy seeing first swells here, expecting larger surf picking up tomorrow from block island to nantucket
