Beech are smooth barked and very gray. Ash have a distinct weave to their bark. Ash also has opposite branching as opposed to Beech which is alternate.

You still have live ash trees?

My birches and maples have just started here. Some of my cherries and apples are pretty much all the way there. Beech, oaks, hickories just buds. One big red oak on my hill started a little early. Found a decent little chestnut tree today... And a handful of ticks.

No frost herenever said what I planted anyway... Carrots and radishes are plenty frost tolerant. Get sowing, it's a beautiful day.

Generally, I'm not looking for Norway maple. I got the logs from my buddy for free was just going to use it for shelf banding and drawer boxes but when it got sawed up it revealed this wonderful spalting. Pretty stunning stuff. Better than using it for firewood.

Stradivarius supposedly used it in his violins. I'm doing a kitchen right now out of Norway maple. Some nice spalting to it.

It was pretty warm this morning. I wore a shirtsleeve and worked with the shop garage door open all day, never bothered to look at the thermometer though.

Everything is in bloom, I grilled ribeyes tonight. No fire in the wood stove, embrace it... Spring time is here. I've got my first flower on my strawberries for Pete's sake

April brings in forsythia, daffodils, perrywinkle, magnolia, peepers, and if you're deep in the valley maybe even some morels. I'm not one to rank months but April is pretty great in my book.

You can just get new glass. You should be able to take out the old stuff from the inside. Probably a standard size.

Is there any space in between the drip edge and gutter vertically where the fascia board is exposed without an aluminum strip shingled below the drip and into the gutter?

Sounds like he wasn't much the thinking type. Water has been doing the same old thing to gutters longer than he or you or I have been alive. Sucks there are those guys out there giving a bad name to contractors. It's hard to say from just a picture though. I have trouble seeing water coming down the siding just from that little piece of aluminum missing. Id look at the wall inside for any nail pops on the sheetrock, water stains anywhere. Look up at the subfloor in that area of the basement. Could be a can of worms. Hopefully not but don't wait around for it to fix itself.

On second glance its hard to see if you even have any drip edge... And maybe it's just the picture but a few rows of shingles next to that valley look a bit lifted. Hopefully you know a decent roofer who can take a look at it in person.
