1. On the same page with many here.. In winter (or any time snow is possible) I’m in the invigorating mid-20s camp for ideal temp... outside of winter give me those mid-60s.. picturing those October sunny days that lead to crisp evenings and temps dropping like a rock.. hoodie weather.. also those spring/summer days where you get a reprieve from heat with a socked in easterly flow and a nice steady rain.

2. How much rain did everyone get via Ida in 2021. I barely remember this event. a2f86379ad3cd839aded8b737d2afe5d.jpg90234aa3f4cb1f1b703193c09ed13466.jpg946f09dc0324d0e6e8394ec197748301.jpg

Funny enough, I was looking that event up on Friday as my freshly mowed backyard turned into a river due to flash flooding.. that 9-1-21 event was the only other time that happened since I moved in here.. we had over 5 inches here in linglestown with ida. I believe that event kind of quietly found it’s way into a top 5 daily rainfall event at mdt, behind one of the Agnes days if my memory isn’t complete garbage.

3. This fucking smoke is pissing me off. Can't we just send a bunch of monkeys with fire extinguishers up to Nova Scotia and get this shit sorted out already?

I’m staying up in coastal New Brunswick this week at a place called beaver harbour. it’s been raining/foggy and 60-65 degrees for four straight days.. not great for driving or sightseeing but ironically some of the best air quality I’ve had this summer. Considered canceling a few weeks back when there were active fires even out this way. Would hope Quebec/Ontario are getting in on some of this to help out the situation. The sick deranged weenie in me is loving this consistent drear and steady rain after the past few months back home. The mrs. is probably getting ready to punt me into the sea after the tenth time I’ve come inside soaking saying something like “this is great chowder and coffee weather”

LOL, I should have bet some money on that one, eh.  Congrats Bears!   That save by Shepard in the second spurred this incredible Bears rally.

Spot-on Bubs.. someone looking back on this thread will probably think you were just re-capping the way the game ended instead of making a dead-on prediction hours before the puck dropped. thrilling series...  battling back from 2-0 in the series and again on the road in a game 7, really impressive.. story-book ending.

gonna be a tall tale to beat them for sure.

Agreed.. they're speedy little bastards and most passes tape to tape in open space, pretty impressive.. I didn’t realize Dan Bylesma was at the helm for them until a few weeks ago…  That said… Bears might have figured a few things out in Game 3.  They really took it to them in the corners, just muscled CV off the puck pretty consistently for stretches… Probably the obvious key for the Bears if they want to hang with a well-oiled machine is limiting man-advantages.. Most of the penalties the Bears took in Game 3 were self-inflicted, too-many-men-on the ice, delay of game, etc..  those really came back to bite them. Giant Center was electric on Tues. Just got my voice back this morning.  Won’t be there tonight but good luck to those who are heading down.

There are waves of smoke blowing past my outside light.

I didn't expect it to be this noticeable at the surface tonight.  The Nextdoor app comments have quickly shifted from the usual "did anyone hear those bangs? were those fireworks? gunshots?" to being flooded with "what the hell is burning in lower paxton township?!" questions.

here comes the mid and late summer heat in the northeast. Endless summer liable to last into October. the last 45 days have not been all that warm

the next 45 will more than make up for it

this kind of warm water will not be denied

Summer into October is par for the course here...unfortunately.  Low to mid 90's in July is just SLIGHLTY above normal....no different than it staying around 81 BN Wise for a high. But 100's is gross.   MDT was only AN by 9 degrees COMBINED the last two days.  3 one day and 6 the other.

Say it ain’t so.. The loss of traditional fall has been my biggest grievance with the new normal by far. Haven’t had a BN September since 2013 or October since 2015 here.. and that’s using the toasty 1991-2020 avgs.   Sweating bullets while tailgating in the heart of the BIG10 schedule aggravates me to no end.  This isn't SEC country. Another +6 October will probably expedite my migration northward.  I can’t grow a beard worth s**t, but think I could adapt to the mountain-man hermit lifestyle pretty easily otherwise.

The HRRR is a bust for rain tonight.

Crazy how much the 3k NAM backed off on totals into PA from 6z to 12z run today too.

I call bluff on my “heavy rain” forecast.

Agreed.  Guess I'll have to put on a YouTube "rain sounds" video for white noise  tonight instead of the real thing.  Bummer.

9. Bubbler86 - odds on Phoenix scoring 27 in the first half?
Wow.

Holy Lord Luka.. definitely pulling for the mavs
the rest of the playoffs.. showed a lot of resilience in fighting out of a 2-0 hole against the best team in the league and then doing this to them on their home floor in game 7. Wow.

10. That is scary. Must have been surreal.

I worked at a nuclear power plant in Berwick in my young engineering career. Definitely had a sense of feeling safe, but there was that presence of danger.

.

Interesting! The company I work for now is involved with the SSES Berwick plant.. the lore of the TMI incident was one of the things that got me interested in the power industry growing up.. Vivid memories of going out on my uncle’s boat on the Susquehanna down by Middletown and being fixated on the massive amount of steam ascending from the cooling tower, fascinated by the amount of energy that a single reactor could produce and the responsibility associated with harnessing that force of nature.. the fact that it was surrounded by armed guards and layers of security added to the sense of mystery and really made me want to see the inter-workings….

Lo and behold, decades later I’ve gotten to scratch that itch.. And to be honest, the scope and scale of the whole operation of commercial nuclear plants still amazes me…(Snowstorms might be the only other thing in life for which I’ve never lost my child-like sense of awe)..

I also binge watched the TMI documentary while the Sixers were laying an egg the other night in game 2.. I guess there’s always some level of sensationalism to hook the viewer, but I thought they did a really nice job at capturing the series of events and the very real confusion and fear at the time of a truly unprecedented event. I tried to check my benefit of hindsight at the door when watching and keep in mind that in the moment there were legitimate disagreements among renowned nuclear engineers and physicists as to what was going on within the core and what level of danger the suspected hydrogen bubble imposed… terrifying… and that confusion funneled down to an absolute PR/communications debacle from Met-Ed and NRC officials throughout the week.. the fact that the China Syndrome was released just days prior and had already worked it’s way into the public psyche was an eerie coincidence too..I felt so bad watching the Middletown residents relive that.. I could talk for hours on this stuff because the history and implications of the accident still fascinate me but I’ll stop here and bring it back to weather.. Just cracked 3 inches for the event around 12:30!

I'm really not in the market for a mower right now but I will be looking into getting an Ego.

FWIW I've used an EGO mower for two seasons now and I love it. Granted I have less than half an acre to mow, but it usually takes me about an hour, and the battery lasts long enough to get through it without having to recharge.  Also, my yard is pretty hilly (great for sledding, sucks for mowing), so the fact that its light weight and has a smooth self-propel is really convenient. The low noise and headlight feature comes in handy too for dusk mowing.. I'm too much of a baby to mow during the soul-sucking daytime hours during the summer.

12. I think this was actually remarkably well modeled here in the Capital region (outside of some stingy NAM runs).. Mesos even at range consistently showed onset around 5 pm and changing to sleet between 9-10 pm w/ accumulations in the 4-5 inch range… that’s exactly what has happened here a few miles NE of hbg.. and looking back to global OPs runs from Weds, I think they were pretty good at nailing the upper-levels and general progression/timing.. certainly never budged off of the atypical inland track idea that resulted in our widespread taintage followed by dryslot.. no complaints here!! Glad everyone seems to have gotten something decent out of this fickle beast! Felt like we were tracking this one for a month.

That is actually quite "high" for a TV met call this early in the progression.  That is an easy win if it happened.

Agreed, a little surprised they put that out tonight.. not outlandish, but 72 hours out.. Chuck Rhodes would never!
