That looks like EF3 to 4 damage along the path. Brutal. Hope everyone made shelter.

Rains incoming from the SE, and a Flash Flood Watch out. Should get interesting around here later today. Hopefully get some good thunder.

After a few showers early this morning, been cloudy with temps hovering around 60 this afternoon. Looks like a good shot at heavier rains tomorrow/tomorrow night with nasty storms to my S possible.

Looks like today is going to be the best day for the week. With winds out of the W/SW should be in the 70's in town. Yesterday, the Lake wind didn't relent, so stayed cool.

Storm passed just to my N last night, but provided my first lightning show of the season. Batch of showers passed through this morning with a crack of thunder. Should warm to around 70 by this afternoon after front moves through, and winds turn more W.

0.46" of rain yesterday, with another 0.20" early this morning. Another cooler day today in the 50's before things warm up into the 70's here in town over the weekend. Will be able to sit out on the deck, and get some Sun.  Even tho there will be a threat of rain early, and some scattered stms possible in the aftrn.

These help visualize the difference between 2012 & 2024. As Joe mentioned, this year has been a steadier warmth overall than 2012.

Rainy start to the day, with about 1/4" so far. Probably won't see much more than that as rain is light now with a chilly NE wind off the Lake. High around 50 today.

Planting in town can happen anytime soon, although it tends to stay cooler during the day, so growth is slowed. But away from the Lake is a big gamble this time of month. Folks that have bigger gardens, tend to have greenhouses to get stuff started. General rule is to plant after Memorial Day for us in the N areas of the sub. When warmer, more humid conditions set in (especially during the overnight), everything just takes off. I don't do veggies, just flowers, and I get a couple flats of annuals every year from my local greenhouse to mix in with the perennials. Sometimes I'll get a couple hanging baskets of Wave Petunias. Chunk of money for flowers, but it makes things look nice.

Looks like 30-35 across interior NE MN with 40-45 nearer the Lake this morning. Expecting 0.5-1.0" of rain starting tonight into tomorrow. That will be welcome.

Looks like some precip chances moving through here starting Thurs, but this time of year, the drier air off the Lake likes to eat precip. Unless there is a strong W or S flow, or during the overnight when the inland, and Lake air balance out some.

See this quite a bit in May, and June. Cooler by the Lake. Breezy NE winds will keep temps in the 50's, while away from the Lake will be much more pleasant. Temps this morning running in the upper 20's-mid 30's. Actually at freeze levels at a few sites under the frost advisory this morning.

Very nice day with most of the smoke gone, but temps only peaking around 60 today. Frost advisory out again across NE MN into N WI. A chilly night on tap.

Well, I went through the data for snow season rank. Seems a bit late, but we can still get overnight snows around here in the N most part of the sub into May. 

From my sig totals below I'm ranking from least snowiest as it was a lean snow year.

TH 27.7" ranks 9th(tied) least snowiest since 1894 with sporadic missing years.

TH 7NW 56.6" ranks 4th least snowiest since 1998. 25+ years of co-op service from the same observer at this site (home). That's awesome! High school science teacher I believe.

Duluth arpt 38.7" ranks 2nd least snowiest (behind 1980/81 36.5") since 1948. Earlier data is from downtown Duluth (near the Lake), which has a much lower avg snow season from 1885-1940, so can't be used for comparison.

Bayfield 60.7" ranks 20th least snowiest with data sparse from 1897-1912, then since 1938 with sporadic missing years.

Ironwood 66.3" ranks 4th least snowiest since 1901 with sporadic missing years.

Hit 80 here in town, and the smoke is down to the surface. Can smell it. Light haze. Probably be a little warmer without it.

Smoke has filled the sky. Nasty! If any aurora come out tonight, going to be tough to see.

I fell asleep, so didn't check later in the night. Great to see they came out in an awesome display again. Hopefully tonight, another round will be in the offing.  

Talk of a possible second decent hit from CME's tonight. Will be interesting to see if we get a decent showing of the aurora. Last night after sunset was very weak. Just a greenish glow in the N. 

Also, we have another Frost advisory for tomorrow am across NE MN as temps will dip to the low-mid 30's away from the Lake.

It also looks like wildfire smoke season begins today. Smokey skies expected to move in this afternoon. Edmonton has been dealing with thick smoke for a couple days now. 

 

Yeah, smoke is on the doorstep, coming behind front, and will be around through tomorrow it looks like. Nice Mother's Day tho.

Kp levels are down to 7 which is G4. Aurora shouldn't be as strong tonight unless there's an uptick to 8 or 9 again (G5). I'll be able see them more N now. Skies are very clear as the Sun has just set. Probably the standard green waves, but we shall see, as there were still some weaker waves yet to hit.

That would be the Oct 2003 event that was as strong as this. During the Carrington event, they were seen down on the Caribbean Islands, if I'm not mistaken.

Should be decent viewing early on tonight before clouds move back in.  N lights are pretty common up this way but last nights were very nice.  Have only seen them encompass the entire sky one other time a year or so ago.
