  11. Typically the snowline is some 400 meters below the zero isotherm level. So if the zero isotherm (freezing point) is 2000 meters precipitation will fall as snow to 1600 meters. That is because the snow won't instantly melt as it passes through the freezing level. It takes time for the warm air to transfer energy to the snowflakes and melt them. Indeed passing from a solid to liquid state, the phase change, requires energy to break the bonds between molecules but it does not increase the temperature. When precipitation is heavy it takes a lot more energy from the surrounding air to melt the snowflakes. This takes a lot of heat out of the atmosphere which causes a localized cooling, especially if there is no wind to mix up the air. If the temperature of the air below the freezing level is not far above zero the snowflakes can fall a considerable distance before melting.

Seizures are very scary to watch and go through. Dogs gets very disoriented after. I hope it be okay. If you need anything let me know. Even though we do not know each other personally i am always willing to lend a helping hand!
  16. How about early January 2007? Where it hit 71 in albany on January 6th. Not sure the exact pattern at the time but I remember wearing shorts
  17. A little off topic. Lemme ask you. How unusual is the pattern we are seeing in the 1-7 day timeframe with a strong Bermuda high in January creating such unusually warm departures +15-25. don’t think I have seen that in a while during what should be the coldest time of the year. High usually stays out by the Azores during the winter months.thank you for the response as always. Helping us learn from the best
