It was beautiful out after the sun went down!

37 cords here and still working on the pile!
We do use it even in mild winters though. I've been leaning on it harder considering the milder temps mainly due to the price of heating oil. December was crazy.
And yes this will (probably) be the year for dreaded cold air damming through the end of May! Have those tarps ready for the gardens!

Where did you get your heating oil from. I just got a delivery on Monday from Dixie Land Energy and paid 3.60 a gallon for 150+ gallons
Ferrell. Prices are dropping like a rock!
When I paid $5.77 others were charging $6.90! Incredible! -

On a selfish up note, I have oil heat and have had only two deliveries this "winter" and of the second delivery I am still just below 7/8 full.
Yes, went from $5.77/gal in December to $3.73/gal this week! Used only 41 gal in that period too thanks to wood and heat pump lockout set to 20F. If it's not going to snow, I always welcome the warm air. Cold without snow is like a car without tires.
And roger PDII! That was rockin' times for sure. Started out very chilly in the mid teens early Sunday AM awoken by moderate snow and thunder! It just kept snowing and snowing. Did mix with sleet that night which kept totals down but when you have over two feet it doesn't matter. Until you have to shovel/blow it, of course!
It will snow again, like that, eventually. Just like there will be another derecho, wide area tropical (Isabel/Irene/Sandy), even widespread wind like 03/02/2018. Just takes time. Filling in the gaps tainted with long droughts, is the hard part.
Still waiting for another thundersquall/total whiteout like the evening of Friday, January 25, 1985.- 3

Raining hard enough that the gutter over the deck is spilling over, a reminder that they need to be cleaned...again!
We do need the rain though. Waiting for the wind. I'd rather we get the winds before the leaves are on the trees to clear the widow makers out. #letitblowhard

If we could use vacuum as a metric to indicate how much this winter sucks we would have passed 10^-17 Torr by now! If it keeps up, one would have to travel over 150 miles just to find one atom of oxygen!

HRRR actually has 1km winds into the low 40s (kts) (~50 mph) tomorrow afternoon w/ CAA behind the front. Perhaps we get a Wind Advisory?
Gale watch posted!
Looks like next week starting Friday we could be getting legit advisory and warning level winds for some counties. Feb going out like a (snowless) lion.

Dang...just looked at a Facebook memory from this day in 2017 and I was calling it the worst winter ever...and guess how much snow we had by V-Day 2017? 0.2"--the same exact amount we have now, lol
13 years ago today, the sun shined through my bathroom skylight through the nearly six feet of snow that was laid on top from the two blockbuster storms that occurred back to back!

Crazy guy yelling at clouds. Why does that have a familiar ring to it?

Speaking of living in the past, this not much so, 1998. I remember it well, very well! This hit closer to home for us as we had lots of friends in the biz that were directly affected by this and were in full SHTF survival mode!
Ice is no joke and we almost died in 1994 from it and the only (weather) phenomenon I have more respect for is lightning only because I've been in closer calls with it and with frequency.
This video is long but worth the watch if you're a weather disaster weenie or were affected by it. Lots of footage from various news sources.

Anyone hearing peepers yet?
I could have sworn I heard one when it was near 60F at sunset Thursday.
For reference and for the under a rock people!

I'll take it's not going to snow for $1,000, Mr. Jeopardy host!

Another "sunny" day derailed by unforecasted clouds. Bah humbug.
Annoying AF, quite disruptive for PV (solar) production.

I still believe the Mid Atlantic will get a major snowstorm In Feb and/or Morch.
I am pulling for you all to get three feet of snow, but all I ask is, please keep it the heck out of Texas.
Definitely a possibility!
For now, torch on!
