With rain and no current snow cover with temps in 50's tomorrow,  rain with temps 60 or low 60's Tuesday, unfrozen  ground, heat island effect,  and marginal temps, the city proper will be lucky to see a car topper at the end. I could be wrong? But, I doubt it.

The ground below a few feet has to be cold. Combined that with nighttime precip should mean business and definitely more than a car topper just my two satoshis

Probably because this will likely just be an event for colder surfaces. It's going to be in the 60s on tuesday with rain so roads are going to be VERY warm and wet. Very difficult to get much accumulation on roads that are retaining warmth and when temps are barely down to freezing. The last event I had almost 3 hours of 1 to 2 inch per hour snowfall rates from late morning to early afternoon with a temp of 33 degrees, but I only got a little slushy dusting on roads and didn't even have to shovel. You really need the temp to fall to freezing or below if roads and pavement are very warm. Right now this event is looking similar with temps likely falling to 33 to 35 during the snow wednesday morning, so it probably won't be a high impact event. That said, if the models are right we could get a couple inches on colder surfaces. It would certainly be very nice to see 1 to 3 inches on car tops and grass, so I'm definitely interested in this event. Any accumulating snow is interesting to me, even if it doesn't have much of an impact on travel. Of course northwest of our area where it will be colder, there's a better chance of seeing some accumulation on pavement. But I don't expect that to happen for central Jersey to NYC.

First of all we are getting this snow during the night hours and pre dawn, secondly it’ll be coming down at a great clip, thirdly it hasn’t happened so we don’t know if it will indeed will happen!

  3. This reminds me of the event a day after the super bowl a few years ago. It was in the 60’s the day before on that Sunday, it became cloudy it rained for a few hours, turned into heavy snow Monday morning and Central Park got 8 inches. At least it’s trending snowier... anyone know the year ?

edit: it was in 2014 I just looked it up!

The Euro begins mixing when NYC is 37 degrees. Temps fall to 33 when the snow ends early Wednesday. So it has 2.8 falling from the sky as snow or mix. Figure on a C-2 on the colder surfaces like then grass in Central Park since a portion of that will melt.

The one good thing about this event is the snow falls at night that’s a very big advantage no matter how you look at it

As of 5 PM, Garwood in Central Union County NJ had received 1.5".  I had stated that the storm for my area was for all intent was pretty much over.  We then received an additional 1.0" overnight, but nothing of significance.  (However, utilizing the measuring rules, I only received 2.0" of the white stuff.)  At 5PM, the radar had begun to shrink.  While some of the remaining precipitation shield remained intact (and eventually rotated through), there was no further development.  I have yet to see a system begin to intensify, die out, and then re-intensify.  Amazingly, the general forecasts for this storm were fairly close.  At least I got out of work early.

Getting outta work early is always good. Got 2 inches here in armonk.
