  1. I think it is working again. How do you get the pages to look like you have them in Limestone and other stations? What do you go under?
  2. Are you sure of -200F? On the old wind chill scale as the winds got stronger the wind chills would actually start warming up once you got past like 50 or 60 mph. Vostok Station, Antarctica in August of 2005 recorded a temp of -99F with winds of 100 mph creating a wind chill of -191F. On the old wind chill scale it would be -176.
  3. How do you get that specific data? I cannot find any pages that look like that.
  4. How does it work? I don't know how it works.
  5. My dogs name is Knight King. That is a cool picture.
  6. I know a lot of people who live in the Emporia and surrounding areas. I know a lady I worked with in Emporia who knows someone who has lived in Lebo their whole life. I also know someone who lived in Cassoday, Kansas in 1985 which had a record low of -20F with winds around 20 to 25 mph. I may even go to a historian and look for newspaper records. I will look under the sun if I have to find records.
  7. So wind chills that are colder may not be recorded. Like on wunderground where they typically go hour by hour.
  8. Wow, did any of them survive? Wind chills that cold will freeze your exposed flesh in seconds. The wind chill would be -115F on todays scale. It does not sound any less extreme. My dad worked for the railroad back in the 1980s and he would sometimes get frostbite by wind chills of likely 50 to near 80 below on the old scale. About -35F to low -50s on the new scale.
  9. I agree data is scarce. Also wind gusts don't seem to play a role in the wind chill calculation and they probably should. However it doesn't seem to make a big difference but at least it does somewhat.
  10. It is actually -60F(-51C) with winds of 35 mph(56 knots) creating a wind chill of -110F(-79C). Old scale was -144F(-98C). Also the coldest wind chill in the world occured in August of 2005 in Vostok Station, Antarctica. Temp was -99F with winds of 110 mph creating a wind chill of -191F or -192F. Some articles say -191F others say -192F. Talk about instant freeze.
  11. Frostburg Maryland January 21, 1985. Temp -26F wind 15 mph wind chill -53F.
  12. Beckley Va Hospital, West Virginia January 21, 1985. Temp -23F winds 17 mph wind chill -50F. Hot Springs, Virginia January 21, 1985 -20F winds 20 mph wind chill -48F. https://www.almanac.com/weather/history/VA/Hot Springs/1985-01-21
  13. Are mesonets more of a common use thing today then they were like 30+ years ago? It was used to get the -47F wind chill near Medford, Oklahoma on February 10, 2011. That wind chill does not appear anywhere on wunderground from that date. https://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KBKN/2011/2/10/DailyHistory.html?req_city=&req_state=&req_statename=&reqdb.zip=&reqdb.magic=&reqdb.wmo= The coldest wind chill on that date was -39F in Blackwell, Oklahoma. So I assume they must be used in more rural areas as to why they don't show up on wunderground.
  14. I do however believe the -110F was hyped as well and was more likely -80F which is still extremely frigid. Wind chills on February 13, 2016 in Malone, NY were likely around -50F. http://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/opinion/columns/safety-on-the-roads-by-dave-werner/2016/12/wind-chill-values-revised-in-2001/
  15. Sorry there was an error. The temperature was -38F with a 45 mph wind creating a wind chill of -84F. Some used the old wind chill scale instead of the new scale. However in this article it states that White Mountain, NY had a wind chill of -110F on February 15, 2015. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/adirondacks/2016/02/wind_chill_top_of_whiteface_mountain_approached_triple_digits_last_night.html
  16. It could be wrong but that is what the article said. It was supposedly on Valentine's 2016 and I can't find anything either anywhere.
  17. Asheville, North Carolina January 21, 1985. Temp -15F winds 27 mph wind chill -45F. Bradford, Pennsylvania January 21, 1985. Temp -23F wind 18 mph wind chill -51F.
  18. Covington, Kentucky January 20, 1985. Temp -20F wind 19.6mph wind chill -48F. Very Impressive for that area.
  19. I thought so too. I am not sure if the winds were blowing or not but even with a 3-5 mph wind that puts the wind chill index at -52F to -57F.
  20. On January 20, 1985 Munice, Indiana likely had a temp of -24F with a wind of 26 mph creating a wind chill value of -57F. Very impressive for Indiana. The low in Muncie was -24F and winds were between 22 and 29 mph. To be more conservative if you go with a temp of -24F with winds of 22 mph you get a wind chill of -55F. That would be a safe bet.
  21. Mount Washington, New Hampshire January 16, 2004. Temperature -44F winds 88 mph wind chill -103F. That would literally frostbite any exposed flesh in a matter of seconds.
  22. Another things that seem strange is Kansas and Missouri all time record low temps are -40F which both occurred on February 13, 1905 in Lebanon, Kansas and Warsaw, Missouri. That actually is colder than the all time record lows of Illinois(-36F), Indiana(-36F)and Ohio(-39F). Iowa is -47F which is colder but those 4 states especially Iowa and Illinois tend to get more brutal winds and colder temperatures more often than Kansas and Missouri.
  23. You probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference in feel between both outbreaks. Wind Chills of -40F to -55F will frostbite your exposed skin in 5 to 10 minutes at most.
  24. Mansfield, Ohio January 20, 1985. Temperature -22F and winds of 29 mph created a wind chill value of -55F at 8pm. On the old wind chill scale it was -80F. Quite impressive for Ohio.
  25. I was 4 when that happened. I do remember the 1989 cold snap when I was 9. Temperature around -22F with winds at least 10mph making the wind chill near -45F on todays scale. I lived in Kansas and I put my foot out the door to see what it felt like for about 15 seconds. It feels like pins and needles or razor blades going through your skin.
