  1. What a pleasant surprise to receive about a half inch overnight. I thought for sure it was just going to be rain. Hope everybody is well and happy new year!
  2. I'm so jealous. I am away in Maryland for Christmas and it's pouring buckets of rain and is balmy out. Wish I was back in PGH to see the white stuff. Merry Christmas everybody and enjoy!
  3. Just finished shoveling and snow is coming down again for an encore! I'm loving this!!!
  4. Just did my last measurement for the night and I'm pleased to say that it's reached 10" and is still coming down. I'm pleased as punch. What a great start to the season! And thank goodness I found this board to share the ups and downs of tracking this whopper... It was quite the rollercoaster ride. See everybody tomorrow!
  5. Trekked out for my measurement. 2.25" and it started at my house in earnest at 10:30. Not too shabby!!!!
  6. Any measurable snow before Christmas is a win in my book. I'm super excited to put on some Chevy Chase, break out the wrapping paper, and enjoy the snow fall tonight!
  7. I'm confused about the HRRR right now, too. I use pivotal weather and it did look pretty bleak. Is it because the latest run only goes up to 18 hours? Do other sites give more data? Sorry if that's a dumb question!
  8. I keep reading the forecast discussion to see if it's changed with some of these runs and it continues to be fuddy dud central!
  9. This is my third season in this forum and I've learned so much from everybody. Through the few hits and many, many near misses we've had, I now accept whatever sadness the Euro produces haha. Imo it seems to be the most right, most often. Having said that, the Euro really likes the low swooping right over the Delmarva peninsula. I feel like if it could track a hair west and travel up the Chesapeake, which is not an uncommon track, that could make a difference for us in Pittsburgh. Looking at the Euro maps, all that stands between the garbage zone and the jackpot for us is Westmoreland County.
  10. I moved my patio table out to the middle of yard to be away from the house and trees to serve as my impromptu snow board. Just trekked out to measure 3" exactly as of 5 minutes ago. I would love to squeeze out 5-6" by the end of this event!
  11. Currently, very slick on my front porch from some totally unexpected sleet here in Oakmont.
  12. Do we have a winter room yet? I'm having trouble finding it if there is one. I'm excited to see some snow chatter.
  13. First rain/snow icon of the season on NOAA for Sunday night! I'm sure we'll be seeing many more of those damn mixes over the course of the season hahaha
  14. I live in Oakmont and work in Washington County. I left at 5:20 and just got to my desk about 7:30. People were very careful on the roads but 79S was pretty bad. 100% covered and a car spun out and was in the median. I'd say about 2.5" down here in Washington right now.
  15. Given how awful this winter is, waking up to a surprise inch or so made me want to do a jig. It's very pretty to finally see some white stuff, even just for a bit.
  16. I not so lovingly refer to the Euro as the "Debbie Downer" model. I'm sure she'll come to her senses in the next run or two... hahaha. Also, as someone less knowledgeable than many of you, is the GFS Hi-Res a new product/different product from the regular GFS? I just noticed it on Pivotalweather and started tinkering around with it.
  17. I had come across this "what city will my town be like in the future with climate change" map awhile ago. It's a neat map to play around with, though I'm not sure how rigorous the science behind it is. But it's bleak for us if it comes true. According to the makers, we should expect future Pittsburgh to be like current Jonesboro, Arkansas, which receives a whopping 5" of snow annually. Given this run of sad winters as of late, though, it feels like we could be in the South. Here's the link to the article I read with the map: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wired.com/story/this-scary-map-shows-how-climate-change-will-transform-your-city/amp
  18. Recorded just over 3" here in Oakmont. I was really pleasantly surprised by this one!!
  19. Exactly 3". And you called it! The sleet mix just commenced.
  20. Absolutely GIANT snowflakes but still all snow here in Oakmont. It's been huge flakes for about 25 minutes now.
  21. I'm really surprised it's been hanging around so long. Really a nice end to this cold snap.
  22. Just took my dogs out. Probably about 2" down so far. I'm thinking that's about where we'll stay on the wind down.
  23. The fact that the models show this exact same setup next weekend is MADDENING.
