I'll go down with the ship saying this but I still believe the pac and western trough are overdone to the bad side or maybe even wrong alltogether. I expect things to look much better by the time the arctic front comes through. It feels more like we hit a speed bump in early feb at the worst. Not saying snow will come easy. I just don't think we'll need to use the word disaster in real time anytime soon.

JI, did you hear what Bob just said? You are not allowed to use the word "disaster" anytime soon!

Welcome to the board! I am also more of a reader not much poster, but really enjoy it even so. Lots of good analysis and information here; as well as, some comic relief and a bit of trolling. I find that most are welcome to questions... if you have any when it comes to really wanting to learn.

  3. Finally flipped back to sleet here too a while ago after a deluge of rain over night with temps. getting to 35 today. Back to the freezing mark now. May not get the snow day tomorrow, but I am off from work for several more  days most likely. The hubby and eye have been cursed with Pink Eye. Thank goodness we have a reliable crew to keep our business going while we suffer from home. Never had this crap before and it is annoying!!

Bigger flakes now here in my part of Glen Allen just started to Accumulate again....could be a sign sleet on the way.. ha .. will see..

Higher rates can mean a flip to sleet may happen soon. Would be nice if you could stay snow. Would make my daughter happy. She and the hubby lives in the Glenn Allen area.  At least for now. They are moving to NOVA next month in the Gainesville area.

Could be a situation where someone in RVA north and west of 95 gets mostly snow and 2 miles SE all sleet.

I personally think you are going to have to be in areas like Louisa, Powhatan, Goochland to stay all snow. Those areas favor all snow more than RIC in these type of systems.

The Kuchera maps are good too

Maybe the totals go up if we get that last piece of energy coming through tomorrow night. But right now, areas around the metro are flipping to a mixed mess. And that is mostly what the HRRR simulated radar shows as well.

hopefully when these heavier rates hit you that will change it back over again.. if not .. that's not a good sign for the area..

That would be nice, but I am thinking this is going to be a sleet fest. That's okay though. So much better than freezing rain! I like having power without running a generator. We got next weekend and it will be here soon enough. That is the storm I will be watching. And right now, I am liking how it looks. BTW, I am northern PG, just 25 miles from RIC.
