  1. While there has always been people trying to clear land in the Amazon, the new president of Brazil has created an environment more permissive of it, allowing such actions to go more unchecked. He has a more anti environmental regulation stance in general.
  2. I was riding a bike, on a whim checked the radar and saw a bow of storms closing in on me. Booked it for 15 mins and beat it by 30 secs. Lots of lightning pouring rain wind now.
  3. It look like it was coming this way then just disappeared. Edge of t storm overhead.
  4. Just north of that..just a light hazy sun shower 85/76 HI 94.
  5. Yeah got nothing working in lower Manhattan, but the Bx looks soaked. This summer I always get hit at home. All the times there has been a 30% chance of t storms, it's actually happened I'd guess 85% of the time.
  6. Ah I missed it while at the beach, Robert Moses. so foggy over there took a long time to burn off, but turned out nice when it finally did. Everyone talking about this t storm that came through at home. No rain now, but lots of lightning in the distance.
  7. 85 after a high of 86. Felt a little more like summer today but still near perfect imo. Some highs in SE NYS.
  8. Yeah, backyard is looking like a out of control rain forest here. Very lush. Last 14 days total precip, Bx Mesonet is 2nd wettest in the state.
  9. Nice little downpour over SW Bx headed to Soundview, Throgg Neck/ NE Queens if it holds.
  10. Rain in Manhattan now. Lately it seems If there is even the slightest chance of rain it will definetly happen.

  12. Skies looking crazy over the bx now looking NW from outside the Botanical Garden. Powerful West winds picking up right now.
  13. Was thinking the same thing. Using NWS I see mid and upper 80s except 83 on Sat. Two nights in the upper 60s as well. To be fair what does a early Aug cool down look like? As much as I can remember, the only way I know to hold temps to "cool" levels in early Aug is clouds and showers. It's a break in humidity that makes it relatively "cool"
  14. Doesnt look like its moving at all either. Its dry looking down toward City Hall but I see rain just few blocks north and midtown is completely obscured in heavy rain now
  15. Heavy rain more so on the west side of Manhattan with hail (30 stories up at least). Looking east on the lighter side with breaks of sun.
  16. ..looks like its raining over the hudson river actually but dry in Manhattan itself
  17. I can see toward SI, NJ I dont much going on that looks severe from this vantage point. I will find out in a few..
  18. Severe t storm warning Hudson, NE Union, SE Essex counties, Staten Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn.
  19. Sunshine with light rain out of nowhere in lower Manhattan
  20. All of the reasons everyone has mentioned is probably why most major cities just use the airports. Could be tough to find a place with enough space to have an acceptable sitting, yet safe and protected from vandals and other interference. The sheep meadow would be nice but imagine permanently closing that to the public lol. I don't think vandalism at the castle would be as much of a problem now as it was back then anyway. They probably could put it back with little issue. The current site can be easily vandalized too but that doesnt seem to be a problem. I wonder, they cant get permission from the city to trim the trees around it? Maybe cut down a couple all together. It wouldnt be perfect but itd be an improvement and wouldnt involve breaking the continuity by moving the site. They could offer to pay for the planting of a few new trees elsewhere to make up for it.
  21. I'll be in ocean city, MD later this week, I'll see what its like there. Also, dont know if it's related but the water in lower Manhattan around wall st, south st seaport etc is higher than usual today. Its actually spilling over in spots on to the area under the FDR btwn the seaport and ferry terminals. Tourists splashing around in little waves of ankle deep water...not something I'd recommend..
  22. Heat advisory tomorrow for NYC for 2nd consecutive day of 95+ heat indexes
  23. Do you know how long those conditions expected to last? Is it more on south facing shores of LI, or basically the same along the east coast in general?
