If anyone has specific LOT centric questions on forecast stuff from today, ask away and I'll try to reply a bit later.
Apologies for the lack of a more in depth meteorological dissertation in the AFD lol - just less and less time available for us on days like this.

On this night back in 1987 things were about to get extremely exciting. Still remember watching Monday night football as the snow started to fall. It was the beginning of the infamous Dec 14-15 blizzard that brought 60-90mph winds over parts of IL and WI along with frequent thundersnow. If I had to relive one of the top 5 blizzards since I've been alive I'd still probably choose this one. Didn't put out as much snow GHDI but the ferocity was a tad higher for this immediate area. I was only 10 but still can remember it like it was yesterday.

About to hit the road in Naperville. Late to the game. Somebody who knows what they're doing, tell me where to go.
Don't chase if you don't know where to go.

Tonight's system looks like it will be a mixed-bag of rain/white rain/wet snow with fairly light snow accumulations for the QCA. Looking like a dabber.
Sorry, but you can't use that word without paying @A-L-E-K royalties.

Come on - this NWS bashing is ridiculous. What are you trying to accomplish?
I'm in Lake County IL, and we had about 4"...which has already compacted down to 2" and continues to melt. A warning was not needed, even for the locations which had 5-7". Headline calls are both an art and a science.
Of course I wish the NWS were wrong and we ended up with 10-15" that actually stays on the ground for awhile, as I'm a winter weenie and only care about the outcome. But that has nothing to do with the NWS's job, which is great most of the time.
I bet if you slipped @RCNYILWX a hundo, he’d start back up the snow machine.
