  3. i normally have a party for the whiteout, but decided to JOIN the party this year
  4. our "current" plan is to leave here at 8. should put us there by 10. My daughter ordered rain ponchos yesterday. I'll take a change of clothes. nothing sucks worse then driving home from State College soaked. we're in lot 11
  5. When I re-do it, they'll be fiberglass shingles. I would not want to guess cost of the slate.
  6. The original part of my house is slate. not exactly sure when they were put on, but 75+ years. its a 12-12 pitch. At one time i'd have no problem redoing that roof, but i'm not as limber as i once was. so I'll be paying the amish to do it
  7. I don't recall year, but when we built my sister and BIL house, he paid A LOT extra and we put 50 year shingles on. Part of their house is A frame. believe me when i say i hated it. My dad and i were on one side, working off roof jacks for a loooooooooong time. when others took breaks, my dad was a work horse, no breaks. Anyhow, shingles lasted like 20 years. they ended up suing to recoup some of the money.
  8. we are fortunate to have a lot of skilled guys in my family. And beer is cheap labor
  9. everyone jokes that my family is like the Amish except we drink. We have built 6 new houses, 4 major additions and countless roofs in our family in the last 25 years. Not so much anymore. the house i built in 1996, a 28x52 raised ranch, started first week of September and moved in week of Christmas. Only thing not done was the Mountain Stone outside.
  10. i disagree. That area, there is a lot of hiding spots. Did you see pictures of where the guy was laying in the woods next to a log? Yes, he was on the loose for 2 weeks, but they had him contained. That guy wanted out of there, but the constant pressure it wasn't happening. The guy is a murderer. through this, no civilian or law enforcement injuries. edit-i'm not even 100% certain those in the picture are state troopers. I think these are spec-ops guys.
  11. the food Chris eats in Texas is better then a Cheesesteak
