  1. The dreaded dim sun peaking thru the very light snow in Poughkeepsie.
  2. Just got in from playing outside with the kids. Hammering out there. Shoveled a spot and had almost 3” covering that same spot 80 mins later.
  3. I live in Poughkeepsie now, but I grew up in Buffalo. I did commercial snow plowing right after I graduated from college, and the very first flakes I plowed were Christmas week 2001. Just a bonkers event for the Northtowns and I’ve still never seen anything like it. As it turned out, I also plowed on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day in ‘02 and ‘03. Man I miss lake effect... Go Bills!
  4. Unscientific, ruler-in-the-snow-on-the-patio measurement of 4.75 inches in Poughkeepsie near Red Oaks Mill. Best flakes and rates since the 11/15 storm.
  5. Still going pretty heavy by the train station in Pok. Pavement covered soon after it gets plowed. Heaviest snow in Dutchess looks to be between the river and the Taconic
  6. Drove my wife to work at 8. Roads were snowy, but I was amazed that we had poor snow growth-ed our way to 7 inches. Light, sandy consistency... that approaching band looks serious. WNY LES-type snowfall rates.
  7. Light snow and breezy. Already surpassed my P&C forecast of "little to no accumulation".
  8. It looks like snow...it feels like snow...it smells like snow... No snow.
  9. Incredibly calm in Poughkeepsie. Not a single leaf rustling, 50 degrees.
  10. Just one more poor showing in a long line of under-performering precip events since February 14, 2014.
  11. I upgraded my snowblower this year. All I want to do is run it once...
  12. That's for the very top of the Toll Road, so the temps will be slightly less brutal where folks are skiing. I've skied at Gore Mountain a few times with a windchill in the -40 range and it's so cold, it burns. But, if you have the proper gear, it's manageable. Plus, the cold keeps the crowds in the lodge and off the slopes.
  13. How about this forecast for the top of Whiteface...brisk. Detailed Forecast Today Mostly sunny and cold, with a temperature falling to around -28 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -65. Windy, with a west wind 25 to 30 mph. Tonight Mostly cloudy, with a low around -38. Wind chill values as low as -76. Windy, with a northwest wind 28 to 34 mph.
