  1. That thing is a "dry slot" in the same way that being cored by round shot while standing too tall on the weatherdeck is getting "grazed by the enemy."
  2. I have an idea, storm: What if we all score big? Seems like you're considering it, and we all want to let you know we'd really appreciate it.
  3. I grew up in Shallotte. I barely remember '89. One time we went to the Discovery Place in Charlotte on a field trip, and everyone freaked out because there happened to be some mood flakes that day Anything more than half-a-plow would be malinvestment!
  4. Excuse me, pardon me. Don't mind me, I'm just climbing back up the cliff I dove off of after seeing those last runs.
  5. What's interesting to me about RAH's last product is that the dry slot is not apparent on the 90% low end, but does seem evident on the 10% high end. As if we're either getting a broad shield or getting bombed with comparative dry slots. (IANAM, so what do I know?)
  6. I think the different audiences has to explain a lot of this, right? Brad P. has different considerations to make as a TV met. Huffman is probably just more free to speculate. Though I do still value how open Brad P. is in communicating his thoughts for someone in his position. I think that's the right way to do it (kinda like the ACC's new football review transparency).
  7. I think someone needs to unplug DTP and plug him back in...
  8. Glazing on the trees and grass here in Cary show we definitely got rain last night, but not enough to cause problems (yet). It's just enough to make everything beautiful.
  9. 22° with very light flurries in Cary, near Kildaire and Cary Pkwy.
  10. If y'all think people on here are Cliff Diving, some people are so mad about the weather around here, the news showed them out protesting with signs in Durham. "ABOLISH ICE NOW!" "ICE OUT OF DURHAM" "NO MORE ICE!"
  11. I just use whatever I got off the Google Play Store... Or maybe I side-loaded it, I can't remember. It's just called "mPing".
  12. Started sleeting around 4 in Swift Creek outside of Raleigh. 27° according to the car on the way to my parents in Cary. I think I did see one or two flakes.
  13. I wonder how the Euro or GFS would do on the road at Pitt...
  14. Nothing for winter, but I do remember getting lat/long for tropical systems from the paper or local news, and plotting the points on a dry-erase map on the fridge. We also had a bit of DOS software to do the same electronically.
  15. Thanks, but I prefer to drink mine from a glass, bottle, or can.
  16. 2002 was fun! I never lost power and I didn't have to go to class! Unfortunately, I no longer live in a dorm...
  17. Sold, take my money. If I can't have any snow, I at least want my power!
  18. Yeah, we will all be sleeping downstairs during this event, unless the expected mix line ends up way south of us.
  19. At this point, I'd take cold rain over some of the freezing rain modeled. Cliff diving will be reserved for an historic ice storm, not a miss. I wonder if there's value in having a prep thread for this system. I know if you're reading this board, even as a layman like me, you probably have a better idea than most about what to expect. But this is probably going to be a long event without power in the cold for a swath of people who have no other heat source, and may not have the amassed clothing and other accoutrement, to say nothing of experience, to deal with it. Even lurkers here might benefit from a common sense list of things to think about.
  20. Just had the first burst of sleet that was audible from inside, right as the roads started getting covered.
  21. It's all stopped, now. If we're not too far east, we're too far west
  22. I was wondering if they pushed the warning out first with adjustments to forecast to follow, but the text in the warning doesn't seem to suggest an increase to forecast accumulations...
