We're due for a dud winter
15-16 wasn’t that long ago

I hope this isn’t becoming another move the goalposts winter. It’s coming - wait for it. No, NOW it’s coming. Oh, well, now...

12z Gfs looking more like the Euro, shows a puke fest all the way through the holidays.
Really pathetic pattern overall, it might as well be a torch fest. Blinds closed till January?
Till April?

Gradient this year seems to be farther north, more like Concord/lakes region and nothing I see in the future changes that.
It’s still before mid Dec. I don’t think “this year” holds much meaning yet.

But, don’t forget among the mild times, you can sneak in a marginal event or two.
If we can get the party started by late Dec or early Jan that wouldn’t be half bad. We’ve certainly had to wait much longer than that before. Let’s hope once it starts, it stays.

Yes...exactly. Some automatically assume a blizzard is implied if you favor some sort of action, and that is not necessarily the case.
Can’t be all or nothing about everything. Let’s keep impacting while we wait for hopefully the main course come late Dec and beyond.

If you lose December, you lose an entire month of winter and are left hoping for 2 good months if you’re lucky. No thanks
Do we have a choice?

12/05 most always seems to be a favorable time, and the 18z GFS may be starting to zero in on that.
I’ll be in FL. It better wait till after the 8th

Yeah I-90 north in the higher el cxuld see some if it ticks colder. Anyways, nice to even talk about this in mid Novie. Some years this waits until January,
Hopefully this year it continues through january, except for the part about rain south.

Judah just told Harvey 52" in Boston but he could go higher fwiw.
Only 52? Is that because he didn’t get his siberian snow advance he was hoping for?

Here’s hoping for a winter full of overachievers, from west to east and south to north!!

Anything over 50% chance of accumulating snow in mid November I’m not going to cry about.

80-90” for Boston. That’s a bold prediction! With that snow concentrated in first half Dec plus late Jan into Feb, that would require Feb to be one rocking month! Lots of great analysis there.

Man, everything appears to be lining up. Love seeing that warm pool showing up around AK, as well as south of Greenland. Certainly supportive of +PNA/-NAO episodes going forward. QBO appears to be weak as well, which also supports the blocking idea. Throw in the assist from a solar min and things look plain pants-tentish. Just trying not to get too carried away yet.
Probably best not to get carried away ever on a whole season. Head-scratch inducing weirdness has intervened before and will again! Fun to be hopeful though

Maybe an inch before the changeover for me? Not worried about cashing in during mid November.
Seeing any snow on the ground in this area even by the end of Nov is a great thing. Hopefully the pattern sticks around and really delivers through the winter

JMA updated & its golden for DJF....all 3 months.
BLOCKING:
DEC: Strong -EPO with bouts of Atlantic blocking.
JAN: Strong -EPO, Strong -NAO
FEB: Very Strong in all 3 regions -EPO/-AO/-NAO
The biggest change was the increasing amount of blocking.

Yeah Friday. Odds are cold rain for most of SNE, but who knows.
Cold, windswept rain is ok for mid Nov.

One thing is for sure. No shortage of storms.
Hopefully that’s the pattern we’re settling into, the “personality” of this winter, with cold air when we need it. Or, at least most of the time we need it.

Anyone in New England expecting wire-to-wire should get a job at Paradise on Rainier, where the average year sees over 50 feet of snow and only one season (14-15) came in with less than 400".
Road trip?
