  1. Pouring rain and some nice wind in Great Falls. Not much more.
  2. Remarkably pleasant morning in Great Falls. Low of 67 overnight. Just now crossing 80. Enjoying breakfast outside before we scorch this afternoon.
  3. Gorgeous this evening for the kids' last dive meet of the season. Fun counterpart to summer swim.
  4. A big problem with hosting the All-Star Relays is that its a thankless task for the host pool. You need to accommodate (and manage) ~1,000 swimmers from dozens of teams, not to mention all of the spectators. From what I have heard, there are very few pools that are willing to do it. In addition to the logistics, many of your members are likey pissed that the pool is closed for the day. Plus, many of the pools that have the space, etc. to host are not in the top divisions and likely aren't sending many teams to All-Stars (and thus have even less of a reason to volunteer to host). And, then, as you note, there is the further complication that hosting brings a whole bunch of annoying top-division folks to your pool.
  5. Growing up in southeastern New England, Walt Drag's AFDs from Taunton were always a great and informative read in advance of any coming storm.
  6. Hope the Real Pool Dads stayed dry at their meets. We lucked out at ours. Got nearly all of it in during a lull. Much better than expected.
  7. It has been absolutely pouring here in Great Falls for the past hour.
  8. This is the right attitude. Our pool is, and has always been, in the middle divisions. We like it that way. The kids are mostly there to have fun and swim their best. No one cares all that much about our record . . . we'll likely be 1-4 this year and it's no big deal. Due to our location, most of our B meets are against top-division teams. The atmosphere is so much different and is not something I'd ever want for our pool and our kids. (One notable exception is Langley, which seems far more laid back than the other Division 1/2 pools we see.)
  9. Plenty of rain in Great Falls, but mainly just some distant thunder from the Loudoun cells
  10. Stuck in the middle here in Great Falls. Thunder rumbling and dark skies off to the west. Clear skies to the east. No change for at least the past 45 minutes.
  11. Had a brief flurry ~15 minutes ago in Great Falls.
  12. No idea if it's accurate, but Dulles reported a rain/snow mix at 4pm
  13. Now getting some light sleet accumulation on the deck and mulch.
  14. Still a sleet/rain mix in Great Falls. Temp ticked down a degree to 41.
  15. Sleet in Great Falls. 43 degrees.
  16. Was also snowing earlier on the Wintergreen mountain cams.
  17. Woke up to a light sleet accumulation on our deck in Great Falls. Still 32 degrees.
  18. Also, it almost never snows here during DST. Which means it will almost never snow here again if this becomes law.
  19. Just went out and measured — 2.5” in Great Falls. 30 degrees.
  20. Eyeballing ~1.5” in Great Falls. Georgetown Pike is clear but side roads caved a while ago. 30.2 degrees.
  21. Huge flakes started mixing with the sleet about 5 mins ago in Great Falls. (Switched to sleet ~25 mins ago). Flip happening fast.
  22. Just ticked up to 33 in Great Falls. Light glaze (with lots of small icicles) on tree branches.
  23. 32/32 with a light glaze on tree branches and the hood of the car in Great Falls.
