  1. Mt. Mitchell picked up 34". Very pleased how this event turned out. So long..till the next big storm!
  2. Looks like the warm nose is already on the way out. It appears that from the Balsam Mountains to the NE should be mostly in the clear as far as mixed precip. Temps have done nothing but drop in the Balsams over night...down to 23 degrees at mtn top level. 700 mb chart shows the tip of the nose right at the Nc/SC line escarpment area but sliding quickly to the ne and away.
  3. The warm nose looks like a pinocchio nose at 12Z...but at 9z and 15z shows the zero isotherm at 750 so the duration of the mixed precip may be limited. However, I don't think there remains any doubt, that warm nose is coming. Note, the warm nose should make its presence known by watching the Mt. Lyn Lowry station at 6000 feet hit 32. Right now it is at 27 and still slowly dropping suggesting the mixed precip is still hours away.
  4. Currently 29 degrees at the 6000 feet level in Balsams per the Mt. Lyn Lowry station. Looks like almost everywhere else is still above freezing. Balsams would absolutely be getting nailed later today but what about that warm nose? There is going to orographics as result of the gale force winds out of the East/NE later suggesting areas just SW of there may end up with little snow due to down sloping warming, and cut off from any of the CAD.
  5. I think your area may get a rather remarkable amount of snow unless sleet etc knocks the totals down. The orographic lift will be intense. Please keep us all updated on what transpires in your vicinity. Thanks!
  6. Been awhile but can't help but check in from Michigan to say congrats on the pending big storm! I am jealous. Wow-for sure some of the highest elevations are going to get nailed. 3 feet at Mt. Mitchell with hurricane force winds? Hmmm. Might happen. We shall see. Looking forward to some great pics from you guys!
