Supposin' the time-change f'ed up that run. Their model does this 4-D correction scheming, which is intrinsically containing some sort of time consideration ... 'what if' their ingest got weird because we sent them our data at a time they forget/or erred in correcting their grids for - ...

Like NASA when they did their calculations in English instead of metric and blew up a space craft? Or was that when they screwed up HUbble?

Here's the deal. You can't change people. So don't even try. You won't get anywhere if you focus your efforts on trying to change people. The longer you are here, you pick on posting personalities. Most post a combo of facts and opinion. Depending on where they fall on the bell curve, the posts are either more fact based or more opinion based. The best thing to do is read and figure out which facts overlap from the majority of knowledgeable posters, and then weed out the opinions.

    NAO aside...

Since the "nadir runs" of yesterday, the 00z and now 12z Euro cluster has incrementally lessened the severity ...if not in the hard numbers, the "complexion" of the handling between Ds 4 and 10.

In fact, more observably the trough's structure is slightly more opened up and spends a couple of days actually with its axis slightly east of our latitude.  It's also perhaps 3 to 6 decameters shallower in the deepest intervals.

I mean these are not a huge improvements for spring enthusiasts but they do cut down on the direct schit implications a little.   About six more cycles in this trend (haha) we might limit this assault to tolerable negatives...

Unfortunately, though the GEFs tele's (as others have noted) are pretty stridently adamant about hiatus of spring until perhaps the 15th or 20th so...

I wish there was a "sad face" button

  5. Anytime between 96-98 I was probably seeing double.

Lisa has never seen me drunk. It's funny how you change with time.

dear lord, you were a big drinker...and i had my moments...now i have wine with thanksgiving dinner and i have a hangover before we even get to eating pie...yikes...don't get old, it sucks!!!

anyway, that rock on the hill behind whitelaw/crev near the road was where i sat to watch the aurora...drunk...so i'd like to see it not drunk some day

  6. I saw an amazing display one winter night up there over at Willoughby...I can't remember what year it was...probably 96 or 97.

What time did you witness the best stuff Monday night?

you saw the same aurora i did, it happened my freshman year at LSC which was 96-97...but i don't know if it happened right before 96 ended or right after 97 started...

  7. Don't know if it's possible at night to drive up Okemos mountain rd, but that could be real nice.

I was thinking about how driving to the top of a ski area would be a good place to view...but not sure they allow that

  8. LOL well of course we hit a Kp of 6 this morning briefly and it is now a 5. Oh well. With that said there is some hope as an M7.9 flare erupted and likely produced a CME. We will have to wait and see if it is full halo and Earth bound.

can you recommend any good spots in VT to see the Aurora? I actually saw them either the end of 96 or the beginning of 97 when i was at Lyndon State College...but I was also drunk...oops...freshman year of college, what can ya do?

anyway, I'm in MA so it would be a bit of a drive, but i'd be willing to put in the effort for the chance to see them again...I'd probably pick up a friend and then I could head north on 91...but I just don't know where would be a good open and elevated spot low on light pollution
