Light snow in Port Jeff. Amazing. Almost looks like an inverted trough feature on radar?

Pingers in Port Jeff.

Not to take us down memory lane, but that remains my #1 weather event because we had the fortune to drive through the height of that going from MA to FL for Christmas. We were in a 4WD GMC Suburban... picked up some people stranded on the side of the road on I-95 in NC.

I got stuck in a hotel at South of the Border (NC/SC) for a couple of days on the way from NY to Ft. Lauderdale in the December '89 storm...took two hours to travel the last 10 miles and I-95 was closed the next day. Remember watching playoff football at the hotel, getting trashed at South of the Border and shooting off fireworks in the snow.

On the flip side, I wonder if anyone here remembers the nearly "reverse bust" that occurred one morning in either 1998 or 1999 (but I think 1998.) A threat that no one was really talking about at all materialized way offshore, but was enough to give Montauk a 14" blizzard (at least that's what the news was calling it) while there was literally nothing but cloudiness at the Nassau/Suffolk border. I still remember watching the radar over my dialup, amazed (and really aggravated) at how how well defined the cutoff was.
Me...I went to a public meeting in Southold for four hours and came out to like 8" of snow on my little Sentra. Ride home was harrowing until I got to William Floyd Parkway...almost nothing west of there.

January 2015 was worse.
Agree. 24-36" forecast and I think we got 14". Such a disappointment LOL.

this one is definitely one of my favorites, and my avatar... nothing tops 78 imho, top 5 are probably 78, Feb 82, Jan 96, March 93, Feb 13... although there are a bunch in there that could be in that list, but in terms of memory, those are my favorite ones...
Feb. 2013 was the most memorable one down here. 18" in five hours, 30" total. Thundersnow, too. One of my favorites.

Lived on Long Island in 94, we were encased in a thick layer of ice for weeks. Went a long time without reaching 32.
I remember flying into Islip from Florida right after that storm and the ice looked insane from the air. Like LI was one huge skating rink.

Nice job; use a phone for that?

Fellow north shore Suffolk peeps out there..how you feeling? This should be pretty interesting for us..excited to see how it unfolds here in Miller place
Port Jeff Station here...feeling pretty good about where we are. Looking forward to the snow pounding down for a few hours. Think the damage will be done before any changeover, if that happens.

I think had 7" of pure sleet it was insane.
Absolute nightmare on the roads and trying to shovel that crap.
Day my daughter was born. Spent hours watching the storm from one of the upper floors of Stony Brook Hospital. So cool.

Very tough call for north shore right now. Based on trends, i think 8-10" may be the ceiling, and the floor is 3-5". South shore ceiling is 6-8", floor is 1-3". This one will be fun to watch unfold
We usually end up OK in these...better than most. Agree it will be fun, great to have something to watch for a change.
