In regards to Subtropical cyclones, I wonder why this is

Is it because it is assumed that it is a meteorological impossibility for there to be a subtropical storm that has at least 74 mph winds?

Upon further research, it seems there was a subtropical storm that was not classified as a tropical storm that had wind speeds at 70 mph. So is it that far-fetched that you could have a "Subtropical hurricane"? Sorry about being off topic. I have just wondered about this for a while.

    @Windspeed

If a subtropical storm strengthens enough to have 74+ mph winds, then it's getting that type of energy from either a barotropic or baroclinic source, not a messy combination of both.  In addition, at that wind speed, it would be pretty much physically impossible for it to not become more fully tropical, since angular momentum would lead to enhanced convection near the center, thus warming the core.

Of course, this example is for a storm that started as subtropical, not a tropical storm or hurricane that has begun to acquire some extratropical characteristics.

So, I’m logged out, tried resetting password.  Email never came.  Tried new account with a different email.  Confirmation email never came.  Super frustrating.

Same here, except I can log on with my work computer.  Not my home desktop or phone.  And yes, I cleared my cache and cookies.

I'm ashamed that NOAA AND By extension, the NWS, were in fact LIEING too the General Public,  about Wind *Gust(s)* here in Wilmington/Carolina Beach & Federal Point areas.. ..

I'm Ashamed that NOAA tossed their .10 cents into the Ring of Global Warming Hoax, "Climate Change" debacle..

    YES TRUMP was Right ..

CNN mentioned Alabama. I don't see them being attacked relentlessly. Why?

It's as if somebody spiked these peoples' drinks.

    Absolutely mind-blowing.

I've disabled something that may be the issue. Refresh the site while logged out and let me know.

That seems to have worked.  I'm still getting ads on the top of the page header when I'm logged out, but no more popups/virus warnings.

  5. Totally agreed. I'm sorry, but they just have no credibility. There always seems to be an ulterior motive in every utterance, every forecast map, every seemingly analytical remark, every historical comment, every graphic.

I also see no mention of their own false alarm rate. In fact, I'm trying to think of a scenario where the NWS issues a Tornado Warning, but Accuwx sends a message to their clients telling them there's no need for a warning, and they can relax.

Bottom line is that this was the "Perfect Storm" of tornadic supercells... one that formed and ramped up very quickly, in the worst possible location for that region.

  6. I'm ok. My family is ok. We just got power and phone service restored. 3 blocks away is completely gone though. I'll post a more detailed account once I check in with everyone.

We know of at least 2 people we know that died. One was protecting his wife and died from injuries. She survived, he didn't. One had a compound fracture and bled to death, they couldn't give her a transfusion because they didn't have her blood type.

Great to hear from you, bro. A lot of people here were worried sick about you.

I cannot imagine what you have, and are, experiencing.
