    @Cashtown_Coop is strutting.

I had 49.9” and they rounded me up lol.   Been busy at the golf course.   Glad we had 0.70” the other night to keep things going.   When everyone complains about their yard missing a storm or yard burning out, think of me.    Running a golf course is a challenge in many ways but fall will be here soon

No, first I have heard of it.

I might be interested. Any information as far as what is involved and what type of responsibilities?

It’s a daily report of temperature, precipitation, and a few others items to report in.   NWS will come to your house and install all the equipment for you.  Typically they like a 7am ob time.

My mother called me and said there were trees and power poles down in Littlestown and Hanover pa.  She lives 1 Mile north of the Pa line . Dont know if it was wind or saturated soil that caused it . I'll have to research tonight when I'm home .

    .

Sounded like saturated soil.   Tree into wires in the area of Sell Station Rd.  Quick question, do you know anyone in the Hanover area looking to get involved as a coop observer.   The current person has just retired and state college is seeking a replacement.  @showmethesnow, are you interested or know anyone as well?  PM me and I’ll put you in contact with CTP.

    Thanks.

Here is some perspective on our now swamp land. Up until 2011 the all-time annual rainfall record here was a seemingly unbeatable year of Agnes in 1972 with 59.27”, followed by 1889’s 57.07”. In 8 years we have obliterated 1972, twice. In 2011 with 73.73” and last years 67.03”. The fact that we did not have a single tropical system makes last year and this current run we are on (14/16 above normal months since January 2018) totally insane.

Now let us take time machine back to an era where gas cost $0.32/gal, the average price for a new home was $14,200 & a new car cost $2,650. Batman the television series along with Star Trek debuted this year, and Lyndon B Johnson was president. It was 1966 and the now swampy Central Pa was a desert by the time August ended. This was the rainfall from May - August (normals 1981-2010)

    May 0.98” (3.79”)
    June 0.07” (3.60”)
    July 0.81” (4.61”)
    Aug 1.53” (3.20”)

    TOTAL 3.39” (15.20”) 77.7%
COMPARISON TO WET PERIODS FROM 2018 & 2011

From June through September last year we had 28.28” (15.48”) 82.7% > NORMAL

    2011 from August through November
    Aug 8.65” (3.20”)
    Sept 18.43” (4.07”)
    Oct 4.15” (3.27”)
    Nov 4.50” (3.23”)

    TOTAL 35.73” (13.77”) 159.4% > NORMAL

Since is pretty darn hard to get below normal by greater than 100% that Summer of 1966 was impressive

    . Pro

I don’t have the data going back that far but I did the numbers for the last 2 years to see how wet 2019 was compared to 2018.

The first 4 months of 2018 I recorded 17.29” of precip and so far this year I’m at 18.82” for the same period. Now I realize it’s going to be hard to get the 11.93”(July) 12.45” (September) and 8.77” (November) monthly totals from last year but still officially this year is starting off wetter than last.

Both the GFS and the NAM nailed the CAD-like scenario for our temps this afternoon.  I'm currently at 44.6 which is my high of the day.  They showed most of us remaining in the 40's at best for highs with the only exceptions being southern border counties which they took into the 50's.  Epic fail for ECMWF in the temp department.  I have to remember we're now an hour later for model runs.  Yuck.

Just hit 43 which is my high for the day.  #Torching

A fresh 0.3" this morning from the fluffy snow showers that are around brings my season total to 50.9". I consider getting into the 45-50" range as an average winter at this location, so pretty much playing with house money at this point. @Cashtown_Coop came really close to cracking 50" for the season with yesterday so we might end up slugging it out for top seasonal snowfall in the subforum haha.

You have the edge with your elevation.     I just want my fiddy.

What a great three days for March!   Yesterday I ended with 5.8 inches.  I had 3.5 Friday and 3 Saturday. My three day total 12.3 inches.  Just measured snow depth and it is between 8.5 and 9 inches.   The cold is setting in this week so we can actually enjoy it.

With me, retaining snowpack is almost as important as snow itself.   This next 5 day period might be the best all winter for that.    Plus someone might go below 0 if they maximize the snowcover and radiational cooling.

My final was 5.9” from .57” liquid
