Only one image tonight. With the cloud being off to the north I had to try and take the shot from behind a lot of cat-tails. And the berm did not raise me high enough to keep them out of the shot. Thems the breaks...

And just what is the long term damage you speak of? Here in the US we have been dealing with it since around January. Six months is only short term in my book.

Tonight was all about the view to the southeast. The white... The yellow... The orange... And to end the evening, the red...
-
Was an extremely busy day behind the viewfinder. Started off with a midday run to the pond for some clouds. Looking northeast... Off to the farm lands with this east view of the clouds over some turning winter wheat... Back to the pond for the evening stuff. Glad the wind as up and I as not trying for reflections shots. There were some fishermen in kayaks. So I took a picture of one... The beginning of sunset color... The end of sunset color...

For those around Chicago, why do you need two boundaries, one north side and one south side? Doubling your bets?

The rain moved out of the area just in time for the sunset this evening. The view to the southeast as I got to the pond. This alone would have made the evening a success even if the rest was not photogenic. But there still was more to shoot. Local sunset... Had a bit of a jet engine for the post sunset... Ending the evening with a close-up of the combustion chambers of the engine as it was throttling down...

Just one image of the sky this evening. The approaching system is close enough now to really impinge on the color. I did take this to annotate the cloud conditions.
-
I originally thought tonight would be a bust. I was wrong. Might not have been a five start evening but I was still glad I did go out to the pond. Pre-sunset... Actual local sunset... Going to jump to the last of the color post sunset. Did a lot more than I thought it would with that next system getting so close...
-
I was a tad late getting out to the pond this evening. Some faint rays when I first got out there. There was more rays earlier but that is the way that it goes... Local sunset... The color only progressed to yellow/orange before the blo-ups in Iowa shut off the faucet... Swung the camera more to the south to document the smoke on the western horizon...

Tonight was perfect with cloud type and positioning. Thanks to the upper low to the southeast of me. And the conditions upstream to the northwest were even advantageous for some good color. Made for a very nice after dinner treat. When I got to the pond, a little sundog on the south side of the Sun... Local sunset... Here comes the colors, starting with the yellow... The orange... And ending the evening with the ohhhs and ahhhs of full-on gak red... Good night my darlin' wherever you are...
-
This evening probably was not worth five images but five is what I got. Looking southeast when I got out to the pond... Looking west with some cloud shadows off to the left... Local sunset... Beginning of post sunset color... End of post sunset color...
-
Started off the evening with a precious metal sunset. Diamonds in the rough... The gold of sunset... In this last one, the western sky looked rather smokey after sunset. It was most vivid just as the color as leaching from the sky...

You mean you do not like Canadian air? Might be time to relocate to Belize or Tonga.

Had northeast flow in the lower levels of the atmosphere. While the mid levels were under northwest flow. It gave me something to shoot this evening. Close to local sunset... For some reason the fishermen and ladies all left and left me the fisherman point which worked well for the clouds to the southwest... About as good as the color was going to get looking to the west. But that is not saying much... Some better color happened to the north. And a much better way to end the evening...

Just one image this evening of some orange. Taken from my front yard.
-
Tonight was all pre-sunset. Looking northwest... Looking southeast...
-
I got lucky and a sucker hole opened up just at the right time this evening. So I as able to get a quick image from the front yard.

As the Cristobal remnants invade the area. When I got out to the pond... While waiting to see if I got any post sunset color, I put on the 24-70mm because I figured it would be on the horizon if I got any at all... Quickly found out I needed to switch back to the 16-35mm because the red got so expansive... Last image of the evening with the red vacating the area...
-
I almost did not go out to the pond. There as some cloud cover here and I thought it might just persist. But at the last second I got nervous and headed out. Good thing I did. What it looked like when I got out to the pond... But then suddenly there was a bunch of definition to the sky. The yellows... Now on to the orange... And finishing up with a little bit of red...
-
Departing system timed out rather well this evening. Starting with a sundog on the south side of the Sun as it snuck under the overcast... Around max yellow... What little orange there was... I was really hoping for some strong red but I think the convection in Iowa turned off the spigot just when the red would have started.
-
Started off this evening with some vivid crepuscular rays... Moved on to some more subtle crepuscular rays... Back to an extremely vivid cloud shadow... Had a little bit of decent color, the beginning... Best definition of the red... As the red was waning... Cheers!
-
What it looked like when I got out to the pond this evening... Close to local sunset... Max dynamics on the orange... I hoped the red would take off to the west but all I had were these smudges...
-
Just a smattering of clouds for the sunset this evening. Pre-sunset... Close to local sunset...
-
Not much to the sunset this evening. Just stayed in the front yard. What little color there was...
-
Had something to shoot this evening. When I got to the pond, looking southeast... A short but vivid rainbow segment showed up rather suddenly... First look west when it was still blue... Second look west as the yellows came on... Last look west with the colors as deep as they were going to get...
