  1. Went out for the sunrise again this morning. Just going to start with the max dynamics. Some sort of vague yellow crepuscular rays going on also... As the reds fade and the yellows dominate... And going to finish with the start of the sunrise on the horizon...
  2. Going to start missing sunsets soon with so many diners with reduced hours. Tonight I was only able to take shots from next door at the bank and at the Courthouse square. From the bank parking lot... From the Courthouse square...
  3. Kind of figured that tonight would be a bust. But it was a very close thing. When I got out there, looking to the south... Best I could do with the color. It was obviously red but just on the other side of the cloud layer. Gave a creepy pink cast to the sky...
  4. Another vivid night at the pond. The yellow with a diffuse cloud shadow in the center of the image... The orange with an even more vague cloud shadow on the left side of the image... The beginning of the red... The end of the red... Even the incidental light looked good... Good night my darlin', wherever you are...
  5. First I did the sunrise, now I am going to do a sunset. My way of celebrating summer, a two fisted affair. This first image is just for comparison. Hard to believe that this is what preceded the rest... Right around sunset... Hard to believe but to get from that first image to this is pretty amazing. The backside of the cloud shield got just close enough in Illinois to give me this... Some nice cloud shadows in the top and bottom cloud layer as the color was fading... Cheers!
  6. And now for something completely different, a sunrise. Of course they are in reverse so it starts with the red... And here is the Sun...
  7. Looking southwest when I got out to the pond this evening... The beginning of the post sunset color... The beginning of the red... Going vertical to try and shove more red into the frame... Last of the red on the horizon... Cheers!
  8. It was another one of *those* nights. Glad I took a trip out to the pond. Well worth the effort. Just going to start with a bang and begin with the star of the yellow post sunset... Moving right along to both the orange and the yellow... And the finest of the night with the yellow, orange and the red/violet... As the red heads to the horizon... Even the incidental light looked fantastic this evening... Good night my darlin', wherever you are....
  9. After dinner I sa that the better color would be towards the south. So I grabbed the camera, hopped in the car and tried to find a spot fast. Stopped in a church parking lot[ but the trees on the southern edge were too tall and blocking the view. So I got in the car and kept heading south. It was either trees in the way or wires. I ended up driving all the way to the pond and got there right at the peak color. It was all downhill after this image and on this image I had just pulled up left the car running and the door swinging open to get this image looking due south... A late cloud giving me the finger as it slides by to the east...
  10. I originally thought tonight would be a bust. But as I was leaving the diner, the Sun snuck under the clouds and it turned out to be rather fanciful. I di not have time to drive to the pond though. Just ran home grabbed the camera and hobbled a block to the other side of the bank. Plopped the camera down in the middle of the road and snapped this... Then I hobbled another block west to the Courthouse Square and opened the 16-35mm all the way open to 16mm and got this... The red flash looking due west straight down the street... And the extreme post sunset colors as the lights of the Square were taking over... Good night my darlin' , wherever your are...
  11. Thanks. And trust me there are people out there almost every day doing just that. Drowning a frog. When the weather starts getting cooler again I will have the place more to myself.
  12. Almost did not go out to the pond this evening. Glad I did though. Some nice colors this evening. Beginning of the post sunset colors... Start of the orange/red... A little closer look at the orange/red... Extreme post sunset with dark billboards. I kind of like the tinge of green... Extreme post sunset with the billboards lit up. I like the color balance on this one...
  13. Did not know what to expect this evening. When I got out there it looked just like yesterday... But as the Sun got lower and lower in the sky, a streak of cirrus or smoke that stretched from Kansas to Indiana on the visual satellite, started to become visible... The orange of the evening.... The red of the evening...
  14. Today was all about the smoke, haze and humidity. Made for a very *thick atmosphere. Pre-sunset... Close to local sunset... Post sunset with the lone cloud that was northwest of Lafayette...
  15. Another nice end to a race day here in Indiana. Local sunset with some vivid cloud shadows... The red flash with the cell from up north of here around Crowne Pointe... I like the design of this late post sunset image... The extreme late color and the billboards...
  16. That second video showed just how limber trees can be right at the end of that video.
  17. Had a disturbance to the southeast and another one to the northwest. And here I as stuck in the middle with you. Time for some Stealers Wheel. Looking south by southeast when I got out to the pond... Always slightly depressing to see the Sun setting to the south side of the billboards... Tried for the huge reflection shot. Too bad the plastic on the GND's kind of mess with the colors. Need to think about updating to some quality glass filters... The orange.... The red... This is extreme post sunset. The smoke and haze on the western horizon produced some interesting banding... Cheers!
  18. All the clouds were towards the southern side tonight. I did not go to the water and just stayed in the grass close to the car. There were fisherman all over the pond anyway so doing it this way saved everyone a lot of hassles. At least there was a little bit of nice color to keep me happy. Looking southeast... Looking south... And looking southwest... Good night my darlin', wherever you are...
  19. Not much in the way of clouds this evening. So here is a relatively newish moon. Only around 4% illuminated.
  20. Was dodging and hiding under the umbrella this evening hoping for some nice stuff if the Sun could round the corner in time. In the afternoon before the rain, looking southwest... The Sun sneaking a peek... Just a little crepuscular rays... Late, late color with some cloud shadows from a cell in central Illinois...
  21. A gorgeous night to be outside. And a gorgeous night for some nice color in the sky. A bad portend. Local sunset between the billboards now. The Sun is really racing to the south now.... Start of the post sunset color. The yellow. And instead of a jet engine, how about a whole jet fighter... The orange... The pinks... The red, and the jet became a kangaroo or a roadrunner... Cheers!
  22. Not much to this evening. Probably the best color... Some crepuscular rays from the cells in South Dakota/Nebraska...
  23. The sunset has it's concert clothes on and as glitzing and glamming up the runway again. When I got out to the pond. Rain to the south of me. Clear skies to the northwest. A perfect recipe for some color. Local sunset... Here comes the wild colors, the orange... And now the amps were all up to Spinal Tap 11. The red... And a tinge of purple for the encore... Lower the curtain, this show is over....
  24. Not every night can not be rock star quality like last night was. But it was a nice generic sunset. Pre-sunset with some crepuscular rays... Close to local sunset... Beginning of post-sunset color... End of post sunset color...
  25. I would like to think that the atmosphere was making up for the wash-out from last night, but I know better. Still it was a very colorful sunset and well worth the time to be out there for it. Close to if not sunset... Just going to skip straight to the red for the evening because that is what I like best. Here the red is rolling in from the north... Looking to the southwest, the mark of Zorro... A wide angle of the "Z" and the stuff on the horizon... The last vestiges of the red... Good night my darlin' where ever you are
