I think .5 inch is when the trouble starts. Anything over an inch is massive damage. You’re throwing around big numbers there. 2.5 inches is complete and utter destruction and probably a 100 year or more event.
Yeah - that’s like the 1998 storm- 1
-
Source? I've seen 45% in recent months, which means a significant number of people are still being impacted by a storm like this.
The work from home percentage in nowhere near as high as most people think

We literally have no posters in far W MA
GCWarrioris the closest but he is barely in the E Slope. After him I am the next furthest west. I guess nobody lives out here.
1.5” in Easthampton -
Wow, nice! Hope to break 10" here.
Just about 12” here- 1

Up to 10” now

The snow has been great here the last few hours and we’re going to go well over every forecast I saw for the Pioneer Valley...what happened that prevented the extreme shadowing that was showing up in every model and forecast?
-
So they are expecting that much more going forward from the map's time stamp? I always just assumed those maps were storm totals.
That’s what they usually do...this one is unusual -
I haven't been able to perceive snowfall intensity differences corresponding to the bands rotating through... not sure if that's good or bad... either way it's been steadily falling fluff for several hours. We have 6" new since last night.
6 or 7 inches here and coming down nicely, which is better than I was expecting after hearing so much about downsloping the last couple days -
I think that’s the dying primary from the Midwest? We didn’t get anything but CT and west and NYC did.
Yeah...a couple inches here when I woke up -
Can always do remote learning for sure. The public has been trained. Use technology on bad weather days. Didn’t have that option or infrastructure in the past for sure.
It’s more complicated than it seems...is every school going to continue to buy computers for every student when the federal government isn’t picking up the tab? And while it’s no difference to have a remote learning day when you are already fully remote, for schools that are in person, having to suddenly go remote on a couple hours notice after a 5:30 am phone call, it a huge pain in the ass.- 2

One of the few perks of my job seems to have been permanently lost...
Our district did one remote learning day and then quickly declared any future snow day would be a traditional snow day.- 3

I’ve used the recipe from the link I posted. It takes a few minutes but it came out good every time I made it.
This is a good one, too

Oswego will usually only approach that total with lake effect!
Owego and Oswego are two different places

I could see snow day for elementary school kids....but high school? The only playing in snow that high school kids do is smoking dope and blowing donuts in empty parking lots. Maybe farting around on their old Indy if they're lucky enough to have one.
1. Not true of everyone
2. You can’t give half the district a day off and make the other go to classes/work

It’s funny but the pandemic kind of eliminated snow days. Everyone can do it from home for a day.
This is true, except I can’t wait to see how many elementary kids actually show up for online classes tomorrow in my school -
Can see snow up on Mt Tom in Easthampton but all rain with occasional flakes in the valley
-
Mulch some into the grass with the mower and compost the rest...bagging is a waste
-
Looks like slightly over 2” here in Easthampton
-
Rain about stopped but picked up .5
-
About .3” so far here in Easthampton and still raining steadily...I’ll take it

He barfed all over my explorer after about 3 craft beers in Hartford. Ryan drank him under the table.
This thread is amazing -
This isn't Europe. It's America. We live differently & there's nothing wrong with that. That's why they come here to see America, not a mirror copy of them.
Pickups are handy utilitarian vehicles with lots of room to haul things to and from stores for yard work, home projects, trash, helping neighbors, etc. With crew cabs you also get a vehicle that has more room than a phone booth on wheels and a better view of the road. There are not the best for urban areas but as someone mentioned, they are good for home owners and there aren't too many single family homes in cities.
I’m well aware of the characteristics of a truck- 1
-
I believe pickups are taxed tremendously high in the EU. Also, most pickups won’t fit on their roads.
Yes...my point was just many people have figured out home ownership without a truck. Not crapping on anybody who has one - just saying not everyone necessarily needs one.
Powerful Multi-regional/ multi-faceted east coastal storm now above medium confidence: Jan 29 -30th, MA to NE, with snow and mix combining high wind, and tides. Unusual early confidence ...
