Don't post often, but I don't mind where the euro is.
Except for sharp cutoff storms, we usually see the heavy bands expand further west and northwest than modeled ..but we shall see.

They break, as do snowblowers. Things are made like junk today. I bought two snow shovels last year and they have already started falling apart; A new craftsman needed a new carbuerator when it was brand new. Used twice last year, it now needs another new carbuerator. Thankfully I have a better machine and an electric toro for backup.
Yeah..all this made in China crap

The public starts going crazy when the local news puts out 12+ inch snow maps. They haven’t yet.
Plus they know people will flood to home depot and Lowes...funny how so many people seem to lose last years snow shovel

Nothing exciting on the models at all. Looks like the good pattern that people thought that was coming is going to fail.
Hopefully things change but this winter has been awful with tons of busts.
Bring on baseball. First game is today =)
Yep..the last thing anyone wants is a cold and rainy April and may..bring on some nice weather if real snow is off the table

This is a 'learning winter', where we all learn humility.
Fact is no model set has performed either consistently or reliably this winter, at least for the NYC area.
Given that there is plenty of computer power available to throw at these problems, it suggests that there are real shortcomings in the models the forecasts are based on. Hope that the folks at NOAA and elsewhere recognize this and try to rework these fundamentals, because until that happens, things will not improve.
The 80's were " learning winters"...we learned how to survive with almost no snow...

It does. My kids want to go sledding, told them maybe as it's falling....guessing schools closed Tue due the timing with the early AM start
Yep..probably will be closed...if it's anything like here in trumbull, they close the schools when there are dark clouds it seems...way different than years ago for sure

The JMA wasn't around in 1996, at least not in he mainstream
It was some Japanese model..thought it was JMA..it definitely was not mainstream..may have been called something else back then

No it wasn't. The ECMWF was locked and loaded on that storm 8-9 days out
Not saying you're wrong but i could swear the JMA was on it's own seeing that storm...maybe the euro had it ..lost it and got it back..not sure

The blizzard of 2006 started off with the JMA showing a huge blizzard in the beginning of February with the title "FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY". 26.9 inches later, I was quite entertained!
It was the first to call the 96 blizzard as well...

Not sure how much winteris left, but the birds are chirping and the sun feels really warm...i want a big blizzard like everyone else but if that aint gonna happen..then bring on some nice weather..

Reminiscing to the music for weather on the 8's, I have saved some of those classics from the 80's.
Wasn't it the charlie brown theme for a while??

Powerful Multi-regional/ multi-faceted east coastal storm now above medium confidence: Jan 29 -30th, MA to NE, with snow and mix combining high wind, and tides. Unusual early confidence ...
