    The posts from the original "politcal roundtable" have long since been deleted.  Also, we moved over to a new spinoff site which is also long gone at this point. Most of his posts about you were on this spinoff.  He was so proud of you and always spoke glowingly of you.  All we have left is one thread where people toss insults at each other.  I will unhide the thread for you to find some of his posts but there's over 800 pages of posts.  I hope you find something meaningful to you in there.

My father, John Burns, who you know as your moderator jburns, passed away on Monday at the age of 77 after a battle with cancer that returned after he beat lymphoma in 2020. AmericanWX was really important to him, and I know he considered many of you to be friends. He became highly involved on this site after he suffered a heart attack about 15 years ago, and this became a key outlet for him and his love and impressive amateur knowledge of meteorology.

    Whenever there was going to be a storm in North Carolina, I had two sources to check: WRAL and my Dad. I remember him texting me before an ice storm was expected to hit Raleigh. No "hello," no "how are you."  Just:  "get a damn generator." He was absolutely never happier than when a snowstorm actually hit. He was known to drive hundreds of miles just to get into a blizzard. 

    Thank you to all of you who made his later years fun and engaging. He loved it here. He loved arguing, he loved the weather, and he LOVED the ban hammer.

    Thank you for letting us know John and I'm so sorry for your loss.  The community here loved him.  We will never forget him.  May he rest in peace.

    Our latest 100 goes all the way back to September 7, 1881 (actually 101.) It was NYC's first 100 ever recorded and also its latest.

    2010: The maximum temperature today at the Richmond International Airport was 102 °F which not only broke the record high temperature for the date, but was close to the 104 °F record maximum for the month of June. Both June 27th and 28th had a maximum temperature 102 °F. Richmond has never had back to back 100 °F plus days before in June.  Only three June days have been hotter: (June 30, 1937 103 °F) (June 19, 1944 103 °F) (June 26, 1952 104 °F ) June 2010 also had 19 days of 90 °F or hotter temperatures the record was 20 in 1943. The Richmond International Airport reported the mean temperature for June was 81.1 °F which was a new 113 year record. This breaks the old record of 79.2 °F set in 1943 and was a +8.7 °F departure from average. June had 8 new daily temperature records and all were for heat.  (Ref. Richmond Weather Records - KRIC)

    2010: Richmond, Virginia, set record for the most days in June reaching 102 degrees F (June 24, 27, and 28). (Ref. Weatherwise U.S. Weather Highlights of 2010 page 8 )

     

    also looks like the extensive heat of 1980 started in Texas around this time before moving north and east.

     

    1980 - The temperature at Wichita Falls, TX, soared to 117 degrees, their hottest reading of record. Daily highs were 110 degrees or above between the 24th of June and the 3rd of July. (The Weather Channel)
