Some places around Oakdale/Bohemia probably pushing 4".
This is one of the instances where there's a large difference in rain totals between my location and ISP which is under .5 miles from me. I'm in southern Holbrook.

if any mods can help me dig those up or provide me with them,I know he put stuff up about my races. For selfish reasons, I'd really like to have those posts.
Thanks, everyone.
The posts from the original "politcal roundtable" have long since been deleted. Also, we moved over to a new spinoff site which is also long gone at this point. Most of his posts about you were on this spinoff. He was so proud of you and always spoke glowingly of you. All we have left is one thread where people toss insults at each other. I will unhide the thread for you to find some of his posts but there's over 800 pages of posts. I hope you find something meaningful to you in there.

OK since Rjay brought me here and I often get brutalized by Randy for my dad jokes I will instead leave you with some deep philosophy. If you’re from Brooklyn you can just skip this.

So bad but so him lol

John Burns
Hello everyone. I am writing with sad news. My father, John Burns, who you know as your moderator jburns, passed away on Monday at the age of 77 after a battle with cancer that returned after he beat lymphoma in 2020. AmericanWX was really important to him, and I know he considered many of you to be friends. He became highly involved on this site after he suffered a heart attack about 15 years ago, and this became a key outlet for him and his love and impressive amateur knowledge of meteorology.
Whenever there was going to be a storm in North Carolina, I had two sources to check: WRAL and my Dad. I remember him texting me before an ice storm was expected to hit Raleigh. No "hello," no "how are you." Just: "get a damn generator." He was absolutely never happier than when a snowstorm actually hit. He was known to drive hundreds of miles just to get into a blizzard.
Thank you to all of you who made his later years fun and engaging. He loved it here. He loved arguing, he loved the weather, and he LOVED the ban hammer.John D. Burns
Son of jburnsRaleigh, NC
Thank you for letting us know John and I'm so sorry for your loss. The community here loved him. We will never forget him. May he rest in peace.

I consider you a friend, Rob so thank you :-) I'll try to use multiquote more often, it does work sometimes, but it limits me to two quotes per post from what I can tell.
I'm using the DuckDuckGo browser.

Thanks, I appreciate you too.
1 hour ago, LibertyBell said:Changed it to a cooler blue theme, it's actually from April 2002 during the historic heatwave, you wouldn't think the skies would be this blue but they were, a function of it being April, despite the intense heat.

23 hours ago, LibertyBell said:Maybe by this winter if we get a repeat of a 1966 summer AND the following winter Rob!!
On 6/27/2025 at 5:59 PM, LibertyBell said:1953, 1966 and 1983 analogs on tap, let's see which one comes the closest to matching this historic summer !!!!
For winter, everyone should want a 1966 match.....
2 hours ago, LibertyBell said:I know about the other historic summers but what late hot streak did we have in 1973? Thats my birth year lol
2 hours ago, LibertyBell said:it's been completely sunny and hot here for an hour now, going to turn on my a/c soon.
2 hours ago, LibertyBell said:It's interesting how we do not have late season intense heat anymore (at least to my knowledge)-- we did have 95 in October here a few years ago (at JFK). But our latest 98 in recent memory was in September 2010 and our latest 99 was on September 11, 1983 wasn't it?
Our latest 100 goes all the way back to September 7, 1881 (actually 101.) It was NYC's first 100 ever recorded and also its latest.
8 hours ago, LibertyBell said:wow I wish there were more streets like this, this looks like something from Italy.
8 hours ago, LibertyBell said:Some of Richmond's hottest summers were also ours, fascinating how this kind of intense early heat was a harbinger of things to come in many of these historic summers....
Records:
Highs:
EWR: 99 (2021)
NYC: 96 (1991)
LGA: 96 (2021)
JFK: 98 (2010)2010: The maximum temperature today at the Richmond International Airport was 102 °F which not only broke the record high temperature for the date, but was close to the 104 °F record maximum for the month of June. Both June 27th and 28th had a maximum temperature 102 °F. Richmond has never had back to back 100 °F plus days before in June. Only three June days have been hotter: (June 30, 1937 103 °F) (June 19, 1944 103 °F) (June 26, 1952 104 °F ) June 2010 also had 19 days of 90 °F or hotter temperatures the record was 20 in 1943. The Richmond International Airport reported the mean temperature for June was 81.1 °F which was a new 113 year record. This breaks the old record of 79.2 °F set in 1943 and was a +8.7 °F departure from average. June had 8 new daily temperature records and all were for heat. (Ref. Richmond Weather Records - KRIC)
2010: Richmond, Virginia, set record for the most days in June reaching 102 degrees F (June 24, 27, and 28). (Ref. Weatherwise U.S. Weather Highlights of 2010 page 8 )
also looks like the extensive heat of 1980 started in Texas around this time before moving north and east.
1980 - The temperature at Wichita Falls, TX, soared to 117 degrees, their hottest reading of record. Daily highs were 110 degrees or above between the 24th of June and the 3rd of July. (The Weather Channel)
8 hours ago, LibertyBell said:Didn't 1966 have multiple 100+ degree heatwaves in quick succession? Based on the records, I counted three of them in less than 4 weeks.
8 hours ago, LibertyBell said:I grew up near Prospect Park, and spent my weekends playing frisbee in there growing up :-)
8 hours ago, LibertyBell said:it might as well hit 100, there is no perceptible difference between 98, 99, 100....
8 hours ago, LibertyBell said:There is no perceptible difference between 98, 99 and 100 degrees. So if it's going to be 98-99 it might as well be 100. 105+ etc isn't necessary.
6 hours ago, LibertyBell said:Indeed- that's why I cherished getting over 40C/104F on the 24th lol.
The other thing I like is how C and F are the same at -40 !!!!
6 hours ago, LibertyBell said:it's brightening up now, Tony :-)
6 hours ago, LibertyBell said:That was one of our last really great summers, the heat in 1999 almost matched 1953 in terms of longevity, truly a summer to treasure. I was disappointed that JFK only reached 100+ once (102 on the 5th), which is why I rank 2010 higher and completely unmatched (1966 had as many 100+ days but the heat didn't continue into August and September like it did in 2010.) However in terms of longevity of heatwaves 1999 is only exceeded by 1953. I don't believe it's a coincidence that we have an 11 year return period for the peak of extreme heat (1944, 1955, 1966, 1977, 1988, 1999, 2010.)
Of course if you want to feel cool, Chris, all you need to do is jump in the water
6 hours ago, LibertyBell said:The sun is here and I see large patches of blue skies now Don :-)
4 hours ago, LibertyBell said:Also isn't there a whole week at the end of July when NYC has never hit 100 (I think it's July 24-30).
More than 2 or 3 lol
