I wouldn't be overly concerned about a 1989-1990-style repeat. There's a lot that's different this time around i.e., ENSO, SSTAs, etc.
December 1989 at Central Park had the unique honor of having each of its 31 days with a low of 32 or lower. I do not believe that has happened in any month Don, has it?

Central Park chances for a record low is slim and none...slim left town...old joke but I'm old...I remember 1972 what a depressing winter that was...worst of all time imo...
Uncle, if I remember correctly for 1972-73 Jacksonville Florida had more snow than NYC

Snow should come in between 1-2PM from Southwest to Northeast and persist for a few hours. First areas to changeover will be North of Philly into Western Central NJ by 4PM. The city should then mix with rain around 5PM. At that time, the heavier precip should be overhead and signs point to some dynamic cooling taking place. The city and coast should be stuck in a mix until around 8PM, possibly lasting a bit longer before finally changing over to rain. Further N&W, things become icy, with a warm push gradually flipping over NE NJ around 10-11PM. Further inland in places like Vernon and West Milford, they probably never get above freezing at the surface. Then everyone flips back over to snow as the ULL swings through around sunrise and 1-2PM it's all over.
Could NYC/LI get anything to stick with the backend?

Actually had a decent sized branch break in today’s gusty winds. I’m the winter they would be run of the mill but with trees in full leaf here they are impactful.
im starting to get excited for nexts weekends storm. Obviously not from a winter perspective but for a good wind and coastal flooding event.
My location in the Catskills (Liberty NY) has rain and snow for next weekend, guess I know where I'll be.

With 0.14" rain in the past hour, New York City's 2018 total precipitation has reached 48.70". That surpasses the 48.69" that fell in 1901 and 1998 to make 2018 New York City's 39th wettest year on record.
Don, 1901 and 1998 had same amounts to date?
