I was watching the live web cam at the NC State Belltower, and I saw something interesting. A man, alone, slowly walked up the steps to the belltower, turned around to face outward, then standing there he lifted both arms up and tilted his head up to gaze into the snowy sky. He stood like that for about a minute, not moving. Then he slowly lowered his arms, walked down the steps, and disappeared into that snowy scene.
I believe he experienced pure joy at that moment, watching the snow fall. I too know this feeling. I have fond memories of big snowfalls when I was a studnet at NC State long ago, when good snows were more common there. Im glad I was able to re-experience that joy again with him.... good times....
That’s awesome (I lied about last post). I did a similar thing out on my back porch about 30 min ago. Some people think my love of snow is weird or nerdy (don’t care), while other friends and family have adopted it themselves. Snow will never not be magical to me, especially in the south. Hell in even Utah, where I go frequently for work and to ski, it’s still awesome. And I likely won’t see this much snow all next week out there. Will never take it for granted.

Final post of the night. Currently enjoying the last south Charlotte light snow under moonlight sipping a bourbon out in the snow. Just measured 2.6-2.7 in a few spots. Most fun storm since 2018 by far.

Pro tip: Buffalo Trace goes really well with over performing snowstorms. You heard it here first
Just popped a bottle of The Clover my FIL bought me for Christmas. Smooth stuff. 2.5 here near South Park. Starting to wind down a bit. Good luck to those East! Someone NE is going to hit double digits. Some of these bands mean business.

2.5 is impressive. This band is close to inch an hour rates. I’ve got to be closing in on 2 inches. Brad P measured 1.6. I’ll measure shorty but am saying 1.75

Much bigger flakes now in south CLT. This has to be 1/2 inch or more per hour rates. Coming down good.

We’ve got to be close to an inch near South Park if not over. Still small flakes but heaviest rates in a loooong time. Dog loved the jeb walk. Wife tolerated it. Walked up to Providence/16 which is total mess.

About to go for a walk. We’ve got a little over a half inch it appears near South Park and still coming down nicely. Back end starting to creep East a bit on radar.

Seriously?
I’m not going to argue because we’re all happy to see the white stuff, but most stations are reporting light snow, occasionally moderate snow. Heavy snow or a white out is a very rare occasion. I’ve been in a few, particularly in the Rockies, and you can hardly tell which way is up. But enjoy! It’s certainly coming down nicely.

Absolute whiteout here in Concord!! Loving that so many across the entire state of NC and SC are cashing in tonight!!
Haha come on man. This little storm is great but very far from SN+ or a white out.

@SnowDeac I’d say this helps us later if way back there is getting it
We can hope! But they always do well up there and are probably seeing some upslope enhancement.

heavy mist type Snow here in Mooresville…. Sticking to Cars ect…. That’s about it for now 27 degrees….. so this now achieved snow on snow for first time in 8yrs by my count!
Yeah we had that as well for a while. Picking up some now. Tons of small flakes starting to lay a bit. And still have a couple big sleet piles left from last weekend in the shade. Definitely first time since 2014.

Well officially snowing to the north, south, east, and west of me around CLT. The burger Bermuda snow triangle is still alive and well.

Seeing a few reports of flurries/light snow in Gastonia and Steele Creek. Seems close.

Right now it’s 30 in Matthews with a -7 dew point….wow.
I'm in between South Park and Matthews off Providence/16. It feels more like Jackson Hole than Charlotte outside. Hoping for some of that fluffy powder.
-
Pretty odd to have a warning <50 miles from Charlotte and not even be under an advisory. They must seeing a pretty extreme gradient on the NW edge.
-
Still just a classic light wintry mix near South Park. Not gonna amount to anything.
-
These radar returns are looking good for the northern Charlotte metro (as always).
-
Nice! There seems to be some substance in this mist near South Park. Couple flurries I think.
-
Where’s Brick?? North Raleigh looking pretty good right about now. Just texted my parents to see what’s up around North Ridge. Boring white rain in Charlotte.

26 with flurries here. Flakes have been falling since around 11 this morning... barely enough to coat the mud.

Mud?!? Don't you still have a foot or so on the ground?
-
Radar really blossoming all of a sudden west of Charlotte. Too bad it's still way too warm. Could mean good things for points east later tonight, and maybe even for us if that trend continues tomorrow.

Rock Hill and Charlotte are really rough spots to be. So many storms to the west, north, and east of us.
I was born and raised in Raleigh, still root for snow in the Triangle too, but I cannot imagine the level of whining if the Triangle folks here had to put up with what we do in Charlotte proper. We've basically had one good storm (that still had mixing issues) in the 11 years I've lived here.
-
For all the complaining from Triangle folks (where I was born and raised), it is increasingly impossible to get a decent snowstorm in CLT proper. Of course on the rare occasion the NW trend is our friend, it teases us with almost a foot of snow one model run, only to completely reverse course and virtually go to zero. It is enraging how in 2022 we don't have better/more consistent model technology.

I haven't looked too deep into the analogs, but this storm is giving me strong Feb 2014 vibes. Multi day event, cold air entrenched, etc.

Whelp, the long term looks bleak for anything fun in the SE.
And of course I'm headed to Utah for work next week, skiing 3-4 days in Deer Valley the following weekend/week and they've had one of the worst/driest Jan/Febs on average. I'm really paying for the 29 inches in 36 hours we got at Alta in mid Dec. Hopefully we can get lucky enough to see a pattern shift and at least a few inches while out there.
