Wow TWC app radar is showing snow is currently just west of Nashville. And future shows it in knox around 8am. Not sure how accurate their future radar is.

It really was incredible. The most vivid memory I have of it was from just looking up outside at night and seeing the sheer size of the flakes combined with the thunder and lightning.

That's so cool. The last and only time I ever saw thundersnow was in 1998 in the tri cities. I was a kid then, we had goten nearly 2ft of snow.

Just saw on Ryan Hall, from what I'vegathered this system is apparently capable of or is in the process of creating thunder snow/sleet/ice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like it splits sleet/snow line in half over knox co. at hour 48.

You make a good point. I'm definitely a noob here, but if your organization focuses on weather forecasting and modeling, it makes me wonder why they wouldn't that want data.

I cannot imagine that type of cold. I grew up in the mountains of the tri cities area and the coldest I can remember it being was -11°F one morning. I believe it was around 2013 or so. I have no idea what the wind chills were, but I had to be at work early that morning. My door latch froze after opening the door and had to use the seat belt wrapped around the interior door handle to keep the thing shut lol.

I was really hoping to spend Monday morning staring at heaps of snow and work called off for a week, not navigating through slick spots on the way to work lol.

Is the GFS still relied upon once these shorter range models come into play?

I ended up with 10 or 11 inches the morning after that event. Way waaaay more than forecast.
