May be a handsome vehicle to those into that sort of thing ... buuut, unfortunately, with what is known of the bigger picture and the objective reality of what it means to planet ... that is tantamount to the trope  of putting lipstick on a pig.  An environmental pig.

That's not what drove me to mention it the other day.  It's something I just thought of.

My snark back then was way more self-centered ( admittedly...).  I've never been that into automobile-related special interest arenas.  I went to couple 'car shows' with my dad as a kid.  m'yeah.  okay.  But what I really wanted were those chartered Cessna flights I got to go on for my birthday.  Being in the sky among the clouds, peering down over the land..  Flying never made me nervous and still doesn't.  Love that.   That, and watching tornadoes carve canyons through the negligent arrogance of towns built where tornadoes were first...   But I guess airplanes choke the skies with fossil fuel farts too. Ha

Basically, I'm too idealistic ( for most, no doubt - ) and though it may sound heavy handed, it's really just me and my own opinions.  Ex, I don't think of New Orleans as a depot of intense jazz culture and "Mardi Gras" - French for "fat Tuesday."  Like putting lipstick on the proverbial pig above.  It's sort of apropos named, Fat Tuesday, for having the gall to ever build and carry on with a city there in that particular geography and planetary circumstances.  200 years of culture?  Don't care.  Doesn't matter.  It was dumb then, still is. Katrina didn't even hit New Orleans.  Yet any warning was apparently upon dead heads = rebuild instead.  So that when the real Katrina does come, as tax payers we'll have to bail out the whole region to manifest New Orleans 2.0 ... and around and around we go.

I'm kidding a little bit here, but still-

Airplanes are way worse emissions wise if you care about such things. Somehow it's always the folks who feign concern over CC who seem to be living the jetset life. I'd rather drive both my big loud diesel trucks and actually do what I can in my own way than just tsk tsk folks who have bought into a culture of trucks, however lame it may be that they've turned into commuter vehicles.

I’ve been looking since moving back from FL but can’t see paying 28-32K for a full size truck with a 100k miles. Been looking at the mid size route and it’s almost as bad

Gotta buy private sale. Dealers hose ya. Plenty of decent trucks out there if you're patient. Too bad most of em have 3' beds though. Glorified mini vans.

  3. My driveway has 160' of elevation change so the brake dust would be back as soon as I leave.

Theres nothing like a freshly washed truck, tire wet on the wheels, rims shined up with no brake dust, fully waxed . Absolute best feeling in the world . Give it a try

    Coldest spring ever.

"Euro 12z  AI going wild March 18-23 with major eastern storm and one of the coldest opening to spring outbreaks into the east on record."

Is AI going to make forecasts better or worse?

if you shovel properly, use decent footwear, and aren't horribly out of shape, there is a 99.99999% chance you'll never hurt your back.

I weigh 600lbs and have a broken back so I just use a plow truck naked except for sandals. Am I doing it right?

It’s a beast. I know you saw these in texts but I had a huge white pine on one side and a massive 120 yr old Oak on other side taken down earlier this month before the snow.Stump grinder is coming next week.  Lawn was ruined but will all be redone this spring .. I asked the tree guys about the 5 prong and they all said those are very rare and have not see many . They inspected the cables and said if it were ever to come down more than likely only one would break off . He told me those things were here in 38 and 55 canes and will likely last another 30-40 years unless kXk6lxE.jpegT7KxLcf.jpeg

Was it a white or red oak? Where did the log go?

Yes you do. The only reason I cut it like that was I wanted both pieces to come down on a stuck tree in front of it. Usually I always cut them individually. Yep emerald ash borer. Only have a few trees left.

RIP. Some of my best morel spots were around ashes. I've got a few hundred board feet milled and a few 3' logs left. Ash will be in short supply in just a few years, sad.

Yeah they're not strong. Took down this double ash tree today. Let go a little quicker than anticipated.

Procrastinating cutting a triple maple on the edge of my yard for that reason. Gotta cut em individually even if it's awkwardly high. That one dead from the ash borer?

So we have an ice dam that is causing some issues. I don't think I realized what it was until I saw the large icicles hanging off the siding. Pretty sure this happens every winter at some point, but don't recall seeing the icicles before. Last summer I noticed the pine soffit trim pieces had a punky look to them and have some mold on them, but it didn't make sense at the time as to why. Now I know. Is there anything I can do now to relieve the dam? I realize there is water pooled somewhere above the ice at the edge of the gutter, but not sure how far up. Best I can do is try and shovel some of the snow off the roof immediately behind the ice. With the warm up coming, I'm hoping it melts pretty quick, but this side of the house (north) doesn't get much sun so probably won't melt as quick as I'd like. I'll definitely need to remove soffit pieces in the Spring and investigate a bit behind the wall. The backside of wall is our master bed closet. So far I don't see any water damage. Fingers crossed.

Get a roof rake and add that to your shoveling duties.

As rat as this winter is.. there’s been snowcover for almost all of Jan and Feb , minus a few days here and there. I can’t give snowcover a rat F. Also I noticed in the picture there is a bright red cardinal up on the power line . St Louis?

Some folks just born to complain. I've found the key for myself is to balance out the hope with an equal amount of dread. Just gotta load up on unpaid snow removal responsibilities, that ought to do it for all the whiners- give em a silver lining.
