Oh I’ve seen them. They died years ago. Most of them have blown down or have been taken down. The area on Soapstone is all dead Oaks .
Didn't realize you were talking about one particular place.

We’ve been over this many times. The confused emoji means the poster is confused on what they posted. Not the person clicking the emoji.
I drive thru there all the time near Soapstone Mountain . Those are all dead Oaks. The Gypsy moths decimated that area a few years ago.
The ash trees are all dead from the emerald ash borer. There might be a few left here or there but maybe you don't see many because eversource was very aggressive in having them cut back from the roadsides in the last 5 years before they died and became hazard trees. I'll give you 5 dollars if you can go outside today and take a picture of a live ash tree in tolland.

The Pizza Lady in Pawcatuck makes soupy sausage and meatball pizza to die for. They also make a cold no cheese pizza that is out of this world. Growing up the actual Pizza Lady delivered cold pizza folded in half wrapped in brown paper. A dollar 25 for a whole. She made it in earthen ovens in her back yard. Her Grandson, a classmate of mine, took her recipes and opened The Pizza Lady. He retired this year. Good stuff Ant
You been to trigo in willi yet?

I had several morel spots that grew around ashes that have since vaporized as well.

That's what I thought but they're leaving out now. Millions of dead ones in Connecticut. I noticed them last year .
Yea, sucks. Only a matter of time before yours are too. It hit home they were all gonna go about 5 years ago when asplundh took down the giant ash tree I walked by almost every day as a kid after getting off the bus. Wasn't long before they were all dead in my home town. I've got a couple hunks of 3' round of the butt log of one from my buddies house to mill up. Hopefully I get to it before the real bugs.

I had never noticed before that ash trees were so late. I would have guessed they were an early leafer. Sycamore and locust sure.
They're not late, they're dead.

Just for the record, it is no longer sunny

I understand it might be cloudy in mass but you can't tell me my weather when I'm standing right in it. There's been a few clouds, sure, but it's been mostly sunny beautiful May day. Lilacs are just starting to bloom. Saw some Jack in the Pulpits.

Maybe they’re Beech ?
Beech are smooth barked and very gray. Ash have a distinct weave to their bark. Ash also has opposite branching as opposed to Beech which is alternate.

Maples have tiny leaves over last few days. Birch , willows, Ash and Norway’s are out. Oaks not out but swelling and a few warm days from opening
You still have live ash trees?

Lol flowering bushes ain't trees. Scooter lives in the tropics Kevin lives in a fantasy world. Only leaves I see are in the valley but carry on.
My birches and maples have just started here. Some of my cherries and apples are pretty much all the way there. Beech, oaks, hickories just buds. One big red oak on my hill started a little early. Found a decent little chestnut tree today... And a handful of ticks.

Nice piece. Looks fairly stable.
Generally, I'm not looking for Norway maple. I got the logs from my buddy for free was just going to use it for shelf banding and drawer boxes but when it got sawed up it revealed this wonderful spalting. Pretty stunning stuff. Better than using it for firewood.

Is it my mistake ( Tam' ? ) or isn't it early for even Norways? Obviously they're the most eager every spring but I think they are also more variable of all big stem species and can be triggered by a season's 'climate personality.'
My sister was telling me that Norways are actually invasive to N/A. Either way, their florets give off a subtle sweet aroma that for me sparks a lot of nostalgia for some reason - ... I just can't remember her name or if she ever existed. LOL.
Stradivarius supposedly used it in his violins. I'm doing a kitchen right now out of Norway maple. Some nice spalting to it.

Inlaws in willington had a bear snag their suet block right in front of their window while they were eating breakfast last weekend. I saw bear scat on the woods there last summer, I think they ate all the chanterelles that used to be abundant there.
