That's years of warming Atlantic waters amping up the moisture content.
And this is a rather disjointed & relatively weak fast moving coastal.
Next time a strong consolidated miller A/B storm occurs many places will easily see 2 feet.
You are right with the above average sst's its really not hard to squeeze out alot of moisture esp when cold air is around. Clashes make for alot of snow lol..btw we might get a ivt feature developing behind this band..enhancing the backend snows so it's not over yet. Let's see if we make a run at 7+ inches.its still snowing hard atm..

Pretty similar on the uws. 6” looks like a lock, and with that a warning criteria storm
We kinda lucked out in a few bands,6 is def in play. Parts of CT are near a foot..I don't think any model had that much snow for them and even us tbh and it's still snowing. Lol

Boy are we gonna get rocked by the last band..its coming along nicely.
-
We are doing really well up here in the bronx. 4+ down and still snowing hard..the finale is incoming soon..6 is still possible here.
-
Boy if the death band continues to strattle the bronx and lower westchester County,it's gonna be jp easy. Also this baby is really winding itself up and near the coast which means l.i gets a dryslot. Nyc looks prime for 5+ inches rn..

Ratios must be really good. Got absolutely whacked by a strong band earlier.
It's wrecking rn here in the bronx. I can def confirm the death band over us.
-
This band is literally crushing nyc rn,Also the low itself is def west. It's gonna keep us in the heavy to moderate snow for a while. The developing bands are coming right up the jersey coast in to nyc for the next 2 to 3 hours.

Snowing pretty gd up here in the bronx rn, everything is moderately dusted already..the radar looks gd rn with everything finally evolving..somebody in eastern l.i sees 7 to 9 inches with this setup.

The final band should be gd. Nyc Is doing well with this little event rn..still snowing moderately here..

Middlesex county might get a nice burst of snow with the stuff moving in
Yeah these bands are sharpening up moving east and slowing down. The enhancement is visible off the ocean and the nearby inverted trof. Nyc might have a pleasant burst of snow also.

Getting some mood flakes out here with those echoes crossing eastern PA and western NJ.
Some of those bands are sharpening up as they move east. Guess it would be considered a bust on the positive side since every forecast eliminated snow.
-
We got snow incoming!!..gd Ole inverted trof is helping us on this one also. The disturbances to our west are finally interacting with the coastal and throwing back some moisture enhancing the bands of snow to our west.

So, the 00z/8 EC-09z/8 HRRR in particular are indicating that the negative tilt trough will light up with some light precipitation across our area, at times late this morning, ending early tonight. Least chance for seeing any whitening of the ground is NJ (I80 south) and most of LI where surface temps will probably cause melting.
Follow the models/obs/radar developments and your own takes for this developing FGEN related precip, supported by the oncoming sharpening negative tilt trough that may develop an inverted trough back from the offshore low pressure to LI.
Whatever occurs, it's all done by around midnight.
I was kind of hinting that earlier when I said things might be better then the forecast of nothing expected.

The radar is starting to look better per hour to our west, Also looks like the low might not be as far east as the models have it. Almost every model has barely any snow for nyc. So it's gonna be interesting to see how much actually does fall .

Someone is going to get an inverted band..where it sets up ..nobody knows.. but its gonna snow in n.y.c tonight..radar looks gd and the disturbance itself is south of all models esp with the precip shield.

Well it looks like a snow globe out here..heavy snow currently. Awaiting the heavier echos. Curious to see if it flips to rain or stays as very heavy snow..everything in the bronx is snowcovered it seems!!

It's kinda crazy that no upgrades to warning level snow have been made considering that parts of n.y.c are quickly approaching 7+ inches with more still to come..
