I've got 5" total since yesterday, it's still coming down pretty good out there. Might squeeze another inch or two before it's done.

It looks bad. Scannerfood is posting some crazy images on FB. I hate you all are having to deal with this, man. Stay safe.
Thank you bud. It seems to really be region wide, I'm just hoping and praying for everyone involved. Thankfully it seems the heaviest of the rain has pushed through for now.

Multiple people stranded in Hurley VA. My fiance's good friend and her family are currently being rescued. This is the worst flooding of my lifetime in this area.

It's not looking good here now. Most places are flooded. My parents home,of which they have lived for 33 years is flooding into their yard for the first time since they've lived there. Multiple roads are washed out. It's a scary situation.

Widespread flooding in my area. Multiple mudslides. One on Rt. 460 below the Grundy Fire Department, both lanes were blocked. I believe they have one lane opened back up now.

It was snowing pretty hard here around 3:30 this morning. Woke up to a heavy mix. I've got 3" of heavy wet snow at my house. My parents live more toward the VA/KY stateline, they have 5". It's all switched to a cold rain now.

Ended up with 5.5" of snow once it was all over. It is very cold today, my propane heater is cranked up, it usually sends you out of the house on 2. I have it set to 4 and it's struggled a bit this morning to keep it warm.

Keep getting well BuCoVaWx. Perhaps a wild winter will bring cheer.
I joke about Chattanooga, but we're playin' with house money after January 10th.Thanks!! I have to say, this winter has been pretty exciting so far. I've had far worse in recent years. I'm just glad to see most of us have gotten in on the action a bit this year.

Oh, i'm so sorry to hear this.I didnt know, what happened?
That's no problem bud. I haven't updated the forum in a bit on my situation. I made a post a little over a year ago explaining everything. Long story short, I ended up with the fungal pneumonia Blastomycosis. Was on life support for a month, bed ridden in ICU for 5 months. I developed critical illness myopathy and critical illness polyneuropathy. The Drs were expecting a full recovery within a year, it's going on 16 months and I'm still doing a lot of physical therapy. I can walk on a walker and cane for short distances, I fatigue very fast though.
To keep this somewhat on topic, it seems the snow has returned at a pretty moderate rate! Would love to squeeze another inch or so out of it.

What you make your girls go measure the snow...lol..j/k
I'm unfortunately still in a wheelchair. Was hoping to be back to walking again by now, especially days like today lol. Of course I get decent snows when I can't enjoy them!!

Didn't get a chance to post until now. Had mostly heavier snow move through earlier, it's slowing down a bit now. Just shy of 3" from what I can measure. My girls aren't home, so I have no good way of measuring.

Coming down pretty hard at the moment. We have picked up at least an inch maybe more since it began. Roads are deteriorating quickly.

Dickenson and Buchanan Counties in SWVA now under Winter Storm Warning. I believe Lee and Wise County already had Winter Storm Warning.
Dickenson and Buchanan counties are a part of Charleston WV NWS. They had talked about issuing advisory but changed their minds to Winter Storm Warning instead. They usually wait til the last minute to issue warnings down here.

It looks like I may end up on the lower side of totals on this storm, but I'm still stoked to actually have some winter weather!! I'm very happy for my TN buddy's, you guy's deserve a decent storm!

Managed to pick up another inch throughout the night/morning. 5 inches total, not bad considering the amount of rain that fell with it!

Just got home from Grundy to Keen Mountain, the roads and all surfaces are covered now. It didn't take long from the time it started. The snow is still coming down fairly heavy.

Steady moderate snow; small flakes; becoming a winter wonderland
Temperature slowly rising. I assumed it would drop a few degrees with the start of the storm, but has gone up 3 degrees since snow started.
We are getting very fine small flakes in Grundy at the moment. Starting to pick a little now.

I saw an earlier post that you have a home and are currently in clintwood. Nice to see someone else in this forum that is in my town! Rarely post, but just had to pop in to say hi to a fellow(for a short time) clintwoodian. I have an uncle in winchester, and he is going to get hit pretty good with this one. Looks like a mess for us, decent thump of front end snow, and then just a dang mess afterwards.
I'm glad to see some more fellow southwest VA guys. Keen Mountain here, originally from Harman/Big Rock. Hoping to score a few inches of snow. I'm afraid it's going to be more of an ice issue. I have my propane heater ready to go in case the power goes out. Hoping we can all escape the worst of the ice!!

Does anyone else notice that Pivotal sometimes doesn't show snow on their maps but when you look at accumulation it's showing that it fell? I had sort of noticed it earlier this year and the Scottie mentioned the NAM showing nice wraparound and I looked at Pivotal and it's not showing any snow falling during any period. (Other sites do show it)
However, when you click on 6hr accumulation for instantance, it shows snow has fallen in the areas where it's showing nothing but other sites are showing snow.
I've noticed this as well, thought something was missing.

My fiance and I were on our way to Grundy from Keen Mountain. We got about 2 miles on our trip and a monster band of snow hit. Roads became instantly covered, whiteout conditions. My fiance turned the car around and went straight back home. It lasted for around 10 minutes before letting up to a moderate snow.

Moderate snow showers falling here. Winds are blowing it around quite a bit. Truly feels like a wintry day, especially for first day of met winter.

Winter 2024/2025 February Thread

If my records are correct for MBY, I'm sitting at 24" in Keen Mountain, Buchanan county. That's the most I've had in quite awhile. Then again I have to trust what my girls are measuring lol!! It's definitely one of the better winters here in some time.
