  1. What’s unique about this dry spell is that nothing too abnormal will show up on the records. Airports have been hit with pop ups. In my backyard I’ve measured 4.75” since May 18. Of that, 2.25” occurred on August 3rd.

  2. The Burlington/Hamilton area and down towards the Niagara region had a few training storms today. I could see the massive clouds all day.

Typically you get the initial line and that sucks all the energy out of it. But more kept coming. Few of the storms were tornado warned.

  3. Getting skunked again today. Someone should do a graduate research project detailing what exactly happened to the southern most portion of Kitchener.

Areas 30 miles north and 30 miles south have gotten hammered this summer. But nothing here.

There is an incredible amount of new construction happening here. So the air is really dry and dusty. Maybe all the moisture is just getting sucked up? Really grasping at straws.

Going through some Derecho videos.  Now this is a severe thunderstorm.  I found the video unusual.  Unlike one super gust front it keeps going and getting worse.  Looks like Cat 3-4 hurricane damage

I saw more rain in that 20 minute video than I have seen all summer.

A line of strong thunderstorms, primarily non-severe, off Lake Huron this morning literally disintegrated as it approached Toronto late this morning. Story of this summer. :lmao:

It hasn't rained, even a drop, since August 4.

Same here. Picked up 5 mm if I’m super generous and tilted the rain gauge slightly.

  6. I drove by some corn fields today’s in areas just south of Kitchener. It’s bad. Leaf curling, half the leaves are brown. Just not good. Our last rain was 13 days ago. Only about 1.3” in July.

Not so fun fact. More than half of all Canadians live in areas with at least abnormally dry conditions.

Some top notch weather on tap, but man is it boring.

Easily the most boring summer for weather in my adult life. Even when “humid” air moves in it’s like the existing dryness of the soil just sucks it up.

The only haze we have seen has been due to roadside fires from cigarette butts.

Day 10 of no rain. It’s just very desolate here. Leaves dropping before any colour change. Barren landscapes due to drought, and growing water restrictions for recreational purposes.

We received nearly 4" of rain these past 3 days. Did not see that coming. Now to enjoy some nice sunshine and seasonal temps for the rest of the week. B)

Toronto was under a tornado watch today. Second time this year, pretty crazy.

Yesterday snuck up on me. That line that formed under the Hamilton, Burlington, and Toronto area yesterday evening was impressive. Probably half the population of Ontario right in that corridor.

Woke up to a deluge and pretty loud cracks of thunder right now.

I woke up to the beautiful sound of water squishing under my feet. We had 1.4” of rain and a chance to get a little bit more.

Our soils needed a good natural flush.

Noon update: at 2.25” now. Easily our biggest rain of the entire year.
