I can only speak for myself but I believe he’s using a bit of experience with these systems…. How they act Or “Overachieve” in overrunning  ect. I didn’t even realize he’d been in CLT on WBTV as long as anyone I guess bc he’s in the morning I never noticed but he’s also been there since I was a kid like BP,Crum,East,EricT(Retired).

He is the new Chief Meteorologist at WBTV. But noone can replace Eric Thomas!!! However Al Conklin has been known to be a snow lover!!

Agree it looks like the 6-8'' snow/sleet with a raging sleet storm at some point with freezing rain to end it in my area.Usually west of I 85 and north of HWY 73 around here locally is the dividing line, seen it many times.

    Just my opinion.

I grew up in Rockwell but live in Concord now.(Roberta Mill near Harrisburg) and it blows my mind the difference it made moving 15-20miles south of Rockwell has made. I mentioned hwy 73 yesterday. You are 100% correct. Mt.Ulla usually does well tho... good luck!

  3. I'm in Concord but yeah, I may follow suit and spend some time with you guys for awhile. But, as I posted on main thread...

For what it's worth. On Sunday AccuWeather has Concord at 31 with snow and "potential for a winter storm". Last night they had me at 36 with wintry precip. It's AccuWeather so who knows... but man it sure felt good to see all snow flakes for Sunday... I know it'll change a few times still before onset, but I'm going to go stare at those flakes for a bit... haha

  4. Ohhh it's so hard to stay optimistic about this one.  I know nothing about the model runs... I base my forecast off of being a native. I'm gonna hang in until this thong turns into a southern soaker for all of us. History tells us that most Southern winter storms come down to now casting for those of us E of 77 and S of 40. FINGERS CROSSED

Also funny that the ops have come in worse today but WRAL has been increasing the talk more today about snow here.

Call me crazy...and I am.. but talking this storm up(especially it being on a wknd) is good for the economy... period. Grocery stores, Hardware stores, certain clothing items...etc. perfect opportunity to clear some shelves and rake in the $$$.Capitalism at it's best... '-/

  6. This thing is sooo far out yet. I'm going to take a deep breathe and enjoy the dance over the next few days. 35yrs of watching winter weather in Rowan and Cabarrus Counties and I've seen forecasts for storms that literally never developed(yikes) to storms that developed by the minute('93).

Keep in mind we see our biggest snowstorms from mid Feb to mid March outside the high country.  Hopefully the fun is just beginning...

This a true statement I grew up by Afton Village. Everyone even up by Rowan County/Iredell County line would smash. Luckily I’m over in Mooresville Now. South Concord like Downtown- Never gonna fare well in a CAD setup

Afton Village is awesome.. A bit congested these days.. but.... winter wx in Cabarrus County literally makes me crazy. I'm basically on the border w/ Harrisburg between 29 and 49. It's all about now-casting in these parts.

    Current status:

    Boone: We're good

Charlotte: This could be the one!

    Winston-Salem: Feeling good

    Greensboro: Feeling pretty good

Raleigh-Durham: Tanking Maalox and downing Tums

    Fayetteville: Day drinking

Wilmington: Hitting the ABC store to re-stock

Concord- Hate anyplace N of HWY 73 .... I REALLY hate anyplace N of HWY 152

Here comes the slush and cutting snow totals by 80%.  I'll give it until midnight before everyone south of Lexington is screaming about the warm nose.

Concord here.. already screaming.  I know how this plays out imby. Snow ..ice..more ice.... we do better when the ULL swings through at the end. Meanwhile I'm already hating myself for following this thread...

Also this is just pure speculation but I've found with these big wound up storms you tend to get a low tracking behind it as nice little bonus a day later. So we could see two rounds. Something to look for a day or two before the storm.

For those that are robbed by the warm nose during "main" event... the upper level low the next day becomes the main event very often.
