12/18/2009...can't remember which model showed it first but that's the last time I remember seeing something like this...

Snow was ripping when I left work in Dover around 6:00. Snowing hard Dover through Camden, DE, eased up by the time I got home in Felton, DE around 6:30. Grass & sidewalks covered, roads still holding strong.

The one in Jan? It was an icebox. Hours of sleet and it was cement for a week. I have stories to tell of that week
That was a long week everywhere in the mid-atlantic. Power out everywhere, try to drive and couldn't get out of the driveway, let alone 10' down the road...traveled by golf carts in my area...visiting neighbors in the woods across the way was like being a medic in artillery field (limbs falling every 5 seconds)...that was a crazy storm and I hope I never see another one

I remember him mentioning that the full moon and strong costal combo would boast well for a major DC/Baltimore snowstorm.. For 1/4/18. I jumped off the team Roger ship then, but his forecast verifying would surely bring me back.
Haven't read Roger's report yet but ive wondered about the Lunar effects on the LP transfer, as well as the solar inducing effects on the LP... regarding RI... and how that effects the overall dynamics of the 2nd part of this storm...will be interesting to watch play out regardless

I simply can't bear to look at too many pictures or read too many stories at a time. Now if it is sickening for some of us not even there, I can't imagine the trauma for those who live there and are going through it. The mental health repercussions going forward have got to be off the charts. Probably PTSD rates similar to war survivors.
On another note, in terms of making a donation, I notice on the City of Joplin Facebook page they suggested donations be sent to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. I imagine there is a good reason they were suggested, but before I made the donation, I wanted to double check or hear other ideas from people in the area. (If they were listed earlier in the thread, I apologize).
CFOzarks was what I had heard on the news. JoMo also provided a few links where you can do some looking around Here

Honestly I have no idea what charities are legit. You may check in with KZRG on Facebook. You can also try Joplin Tornado Info. Churches and other places are posting what they need on there.
Those are some incredible pics JoMo. Even looking at those pics its difficult for me to get my head wrapped around it. Almost makes me want to fly out there just to see it for myself. Thank you for the links, i'll check those out. I also found this site from the news this morning: cfozarks.org They seem legit, and appear to be collecting long term donations to assist in the rebuild of the community. Anybody familiar with that site?

We'll need help once this gets out of the national news. There is a lot to clean up. One thing I found cool was that there's basically a case of bottled water on every street corner in the zone for people to get in case they need it.
I'm going to make it a focus next week to try and see if I can hit up some folks for some relief effort. I don't know how successful i'll be but if I can manage to procure some donations, can I just pm you JoMo to assist me in making sure that the monetary or "supply" effort makes its way to the people most in need of it (versus getting pigeon holed in some beaurocratic coffer somewhere)?

This is what happened as I recall, the times may not be correct and it may not have completely happened how I remember it but this is what I remember....
I looked into the rest of the house, no glass was broken, still had a roof. I decided to look outside and despite having a tree that fell over, most of the other trees had no damage. It was now foggy outside though. I suspected I had just been through a weak tornado. I went outside and the first thing I smelled when I made it outside was the smell of freshly cut trees or wood. I thought that was a little strange, but some neighbors trees had broken limbs so I thought it was from that. The roof had sustained some shingle damage but nothing really bad.
Another very interesting detail.
I've heard that be described by people who have been through tornadoes before, the smell of fresh cut grass.
JoMo - glad to hear that you are okay. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and I'm sorry to hear that you lost people you knew.
That was a very interesting detail that i'd never thought about, but makes absolute perfect sense. Incredible.
JoMo, thank you so much for taking the time to recount that for us. I'm glad to hear that you and your family are ok. If you don't mind, i'd like to copy and paste that to email out to people that I know. I think if someone has not made a decision yet to donate in some way to the people of Joplin, maybe they should take a few minutes and put themselves in your story. Its incredible just thinking about it.
