That’s my problem with it and why I fell out of love. Grew up skiing with my dad and brother but that was when you could buy 3 lift tickets for the price of lunch nowadays. We’d have to spend hundreds of dollars for just one ski day today for the 4 of us. Can’t do it.

Why not just buy a pass for those who want to enjoy it. People buy gym memberships and pay ridiculous amounts of money, you can buy an ikon pass at their discount rate and you get a renewal discount every year and generally can get it for under $1000 a year. I ski 20 to 30 days a year cost me maybe $30-$40 per day of skiing.

i’m not trying to poo, poo it for the average middle-class family on a budget, but the idea that skiing is too expensive of a recreational sport I just don’t buy. You can generally get equipment for almost nothing or even for free. People give it away all the time on Facebook marketplace or you can go to local ski swaps and buy pretty decent equipment, plenty  good enough to enjoy the sport for nearly nothing. And you can look for discounts on lift tickets, season passes, or some of the Indy type passes that give you plenty of mountains and it’s a very reasonable cost for the whole season. And mind this is coming from somebody who has four kids and we ski a lot. Most ski rental shops will rent you a decent pair of equipment for the season for pretty cheap and they come along with deep discounts on Lyft tickets, or even a free ticket here or there to many local mountains.

Speaking of Savannah, we’ll be there Friday to Monday-breaking camp from Naples Friday morning-will miss the 80s.  Should be home in New England miserable spring wx next Tuesday night.  Next winter probably 2-3 months in FL always with the option of flying home for a big snow and returning after the dopamine drip stops as in storm leaves.

I never thought I would read this and find it very sad!

Why scary? Do places that were below normal out west get scared too? Yin yang always has always will

Who was below normal out west? My son lives in Bozeman, MT and it was a hideously warm and snowless this winter this year. People were very concerned about it. Many of the liftees told him they haven’t seen a winter like that in 50 years of living there.

It's better to be in the Poconos honestly.  2 1/2 hours from NYC and you get that 2,000 ft elevation.

There was over a foot at my other house there and it has the same latitude as The Bronx.

South of I-80, just north of Allentown (which has the same latitude as JFK.)

They also had over 30" in Jan 2016!

Yeah if you want crappy Podunk poconos. Much better options are Green and Whites.

     voodoo

Probably the most accurate thing you’ve said all winter. Enso, mei, mjo, it’s all voodoo. It’s as accurate as the junkies giving gambling pics on the 1-800 line, sports pundits giving predictions during the pre-game show, or Jim Cramer. Info-tainment I call it.

We had Quad and Gondola on hold until 10am and 11am respectfully.  It was a busy day, people know there’s snow up here, ha.

Meanwhile my son in Montana rode the loft with an older gentleman at Bridger Bowl yesterday and he said it’s the worst winter for snow there in 50 years.

I am actually trying to decide whether to ski Tuesday to Thursday next week based on the forecast - and it's impacts on glade skiing. If there is no glade and I am stuck on corduroy I am going to move that money over to N.Y. Rangers tix and stay home - looking the latter as the 10th looks like shite. I need to decide by midafternoon today.

I can tell you that there’s definitely not gonna be any good tree skiing unless that 10th storm follows up on this storm this weekend. This weekend storm should be pretty good for most of the New England ski resorts but it’s probably a 6 to 10 inch deal and not going to make much of a dent in the trees. That 10th system looks pretty beefy though and if we were to be mostly snow at the resorts on top of this weekend storm the trees could get good pretty quickly. But based on your decision parameters I think it’s going to be too little too late and you’ve got to go with Le Rangèr. Besides, the boys are playing well this season.

don't agree, but I only ski on trail-I stay the fuck away from trees. too old for that

I understand and that’s fair in your personal case. But there’s really no disagreement to be had, it’s a simple fact that many people glade and tree ski in New England and it’s an important part of the mountain. You said skiers don’t care, as in encompassing the skiing world, but there is no debating that overall coverage including trees is important and many skiers care. There is also a fairly large back country ski scene in both New England and the Rockies, which obviously depends solely on natural snow cover.

Skiers don’t really care if there is no snow off-trail. I’ve been 3 times this season and have yet to see any natural snow off-trail.

the difference is that bare ground may keep the tourists at home, but the skiers are going to get their turns in.

As a lifelong skier in New England and the Rockies this is patently false. Not only does overall snow cover help the ski vibe, But more importantly glade and tree skiing is a big part of the mountain for many skiers.
