  1. From CLE AFD Temperatures over the next couple of days will be the coldest in years for northern Ohio and NW PA. For daily records for this week and the coldest temperatures on record for the area, please see the climate section below. Whether records are broken or not, these temperatures will allow for life- threatening cold conditions with frostbite and hypothermia possible in the matter of minutes and appropriate precautions should be taken. Bundle up in several layers when going outdoors. Check on infrastructure, including water pipes and other utilities. Check on family and friends, especially the elderly. Do not leave pets outdoors for too long. And finally, be kind to one another.
  2. CLE As the Arctic airmass invades the area Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, scattered snow showers area wide will develop, especially downwind of the lake. Models indicate bands of Lake Effect snow will become likely Thursday night into Friday for the primary Snowbelt. Models continue to indicate moderate to locally heavy Lake Effect snow will be possible for far northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania in the primary Snowbelt on Friday lasting through Saturday. Some early estimates of localized 6 to 12 plus inches may be possible with a good west to east fetch of wind from the lake. The blast of cold and wind chills will be the main weather storm elsewhere with scattered light snow showers for the end of the week. LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... For a brief period of time, we will see a return southerly flow Saturday night and early on Sunday ahead of the next cold front and clipper like system. Widespread light snow for everywhere will be possible on Sunday with the passage of another front and shortwave. Another stronger clipper like system with better lift and moisture may bring another round of light snow to the area early next week. The is not much confidence on exact timing and amounts but the main message we are conveying in the long term is that it will be colder than average and several chances of snow for the region
  3. I'm actually happy for once that it is not snowing. We don't need anymore for awhile after the last storm. Congrats to everyone north/west tho.
  4. The cops issued a driving ban here saying they do not have the staff to keep up with the amount of people that are getting stuck in the middle of roads.
  5. Vid from my back parking lot. The winds are starting to pick up.
  6. Really surprised with how heavy it is snowing.
  7. Are there any good vids of the blizzard? Accumulation photos are boring.
  8. https://youtu.be/oXs8XzRH5FA ^That night. It was like watching the Van Gogh starry night painting in real life but with snow. Video doesn't really do it justice. I don't care about accumulation because I live in a secondary snow belt and a million inches fall every winter.
  9. They are really lucky they found that stilt house the exact moment they did. Watching this live was horrifying. It was burnt into my head for like a whole day. I think partially because I've been caught in a flash flood that made my car float. That was scary so I could not imagine being on an ocean front during a hurricane. Around 13:00 min in (of the unedited vid I linked in couple posts above) is when his boss tells him that if he wants to get the eye he has to leave NOW and reaffirms Brett that the surge won't be a problem. When I was watching it live I was like is this guy serious? That guys job should be to talk sense and reason into an adrenaline filled chaser and monitor weather conditions closely. Whoever "David" is needs to quit/resign/get fired. He also seems to be on the phone with him a couple minutes in (not on speaker phone) revolving going back to Mexico Beach. This is the beginning part of the stream when they were originally in Mexico Beach but left to Port St. Joe because of no cover and elevation surge concerns.
  10. Nevermind, that video isn't even the full stream, I thought it was. That video starts right after they left the Marina. The events you are describing took place before it even started raining much I believe.
  11. "No surge" man should never give anyone any logistics advice to anyone ever again. I was watching the stream for over an hour before the surge happened. Brett originally left Mexico Beach for Port St. Joe due to it being such low elevation and being concerned about the surge. Brett's car passenger also told Brett it was a really bad idea to stay in Mexico beach, so they left. Their plan was to go to some sort of Hospital in Port St. Joe because it had a better elevation. When they were on the marina they got a call from "No surge" man who egged Brett on to go back to Mexico beach. And then the call from when he was on speaker phone. From the way Brett talked to him it sounded like he was his boss? He literally had no concern for Bretts safety until it was too late. Of course personal responsibility comes into play but pressuring someone to risk their life for views is rather abhorrent. I'm sure everyone has a friend they know they could talk them into doing something dumb, but don't.
  12. It didn't really snow much here. You can still see the grass poking out of the snow in a lot of lawns.
  13. .NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/... No changes have been made to the previous forecast as of now. Some hi-res guidance sets up the heavy snow band a bit farther south than what the current forecast suggests, however, we are talking a matter of 10 to 30 miles. This is something we will have to wait and see how the band sets up initially and adjust the forecast as necessary from there. If the band does set up a bit farther south then the winter storm warning would need to be expanded and advisories would have to be added surrounding the warning, as well as potentially east along the lakeshore into northwest Pennsylvania. However, there is not enough confidence on where this band will set up at this time, so will make no changes.
  14. Lot of blowing snow. If the flakes were larger then visibility would be shot.
  15. Vid from the lake effect band. It was very beautiful <3
  16. .NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/... An intense lake effect snow band developed off Lake Huron across Lake Erie into Lorain County. Received a couple reports of near zero visibility in Lorain County. Latest stream line convergence shows the band will slowly move east and weaken as it loses fetch length off Lake Huron and drier air pushes east into the local area. Expecting snow accumulations of up to 2 inches possible in the band as it moves across an area. Otherwise, snow associated with the low pressure system is pulling out to the east fairly quickly bringing an end to the synoptic snow. Only issues will be the pesky lake effect snow through the rest of the day. Made major changes to pop to account for intense snow band. Minor update to temperatures as well.
  17. The line in the Brunswick Giant Eagle is wrapped around half the store. I guess people must think they are going to get snowed in.
