  1. If we can get through this summer without a 100 degree day, Central Park will set the record for most consecutive days without a maximum temperature of at least 100 degrees. Right now we are 318 days from setting the record and are at 4291 days as of yesterday without a 100 degree day.

  2. DCA in their reports had a heat index listed because the air temperature hit 81 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat index was the same as the air temperature though because of the 'relatively' low dew point temperatures.

JFK has had two consecutive seasons with under 10" of snow though correct? And two seasons out of three?

Yes, a couple of times actually. They actually went three out of four seasons under ten inches from 1994 - 1995 to 1997 - 1998.

Well NYC is still alive to re break last winters record, don’t think it’ll happen though

Each day Central Park sets a new record for most consecutive calendar days without two inches of snow.

If Central Park doesn't get 7.7 inches of snow the rest of the winter, it will mark the first time in its history with consecutive winters under ten inches of snow.

Was -4 in 2018 on this date out here. Haven’t seen anything close in a while. Doubt we see single digits this winter

How about this for a stat: In 1994 KDCA had four dates with minimum temperatures less than five degrees. How many times have they done that in the thirty years since? Zero times.

    what season is #1?

are we number #1 for longest streak without a 2" snowstorm (since that is also undisputed)?

    1929 - 1932.

Right now is number one for most consecutive calendar days without two inches of snow.

The Park is about five weeks away from fifth place for most consecutive calendar days without four inches of snow.

Over 700 days now without an inch in Central Park

In about a week, we should be able to get into second place for all time streaks without a calendar day of three inches of snow.

  8. The period of the essentially first half of meteorological winter (December 1st - January 15th) in Central Park should be in the top ten warmest of all time and quite possible top five warmest of all time.

Through November 27, both New York City and Philadelphia are continuing their longest streaks on record during which less than 1" daily snowfall was measured.

The record for longest streak with less than 2" daily snowfall for Central Park is coming up for December 15th.

The so-called Dark Day in New England, NY state and NJ, was probably caused by forest fire smoke. It was May 19 into May 20, 1780. (1780 also had a very severe hurricane season in the Caribbean) ...

Quote from an observer in NJ ...

We were here [New Jersey] at the time the “dark day” happened, (19th of May;) it has been said that the darkness was not so great in New-Jersey as in New-England. How great it was there I do not know, but I know that it was very dark where I then was in New-Jersey; so much so that the fowls went to their roosts, the cocks crew and the whip-poor-wills sung their usual serenade; the people had to light candles in their houses to enable them to see to carry on their usual business; the night was as uncommonly dark as the day was.

(he may have been referring to the absence of moonlight around a full moon)

Reports stated that the darkness did not occur in PA.

Don't forget the West Virginia forest fires of 1987 which caused breathing difficulties in the NYC area.

Wow. Msp is having a winter

    19-25 forecasted

An all-time snow season is probably out of reach, but they may have a top-five all time snow year. By the way, you might think they have had a brutally cold winter. Actually January mean temperatures were well above normal, and February as well, up to this point, has been well above normal.

Sounds like very tropical air, but still it's hard to believe a 91-87 split with over half an inch of rain lol.

It would be interesting to see the weather maps of that day.

Do you know if they measured relative humidity back then?  Perhaps the dew points can be calculated with that?

You will then need the 'wet bulb temperature' (and associated 'depression'). I don't think they calculated the wet bulb temperature back then.

Thats crazy how is that even possible?  What were the highest and lowest dew points that day?

I do not believe dew point temperatures were taken back then. If they were, though, they didn't keep records of it.
