I hear sleet in the leesburg
Sleetsburg! So noisy against the windows it woke me up

I'm riiiiiiiiiiight on the edge of that heavier band that's setting up in Loudoun. Flake size and rates have both increased, but still is just a light snow.
Hoping it keeps building and gets us all in on better rates soon.

Nothing much on radar but the flurries have commenced in Leesburg.

@Mappy, you want to talk bourbon and rye??? Yummy! Eagle Rare is an excellent choice.
It's been neat seeing so many local distilleries pop up all over the place. Have you checked any of them out?
I'm a big fan of everything copper fox puts out. Their spot way out in sperryville is worth a visit, too.
Also, for my nova people, I always think it's fun to recommend bourbon from A Smith Bowman. They got their start in what's now Reston back in the 30s, back when their farm made up that entire area. Eventually as the area got more and more developed, they moved operations down to fredricksburg, but their original distillery building was still hidden away in busy reston until very recently.

Looks good! My fave pizza is gorgonzola with caramelized onions. Gotta be wood fired. The contrast.. just incredible. White, no red sauce. Just olive oil.
Ohhhh yeah, that sounds delicious.
I bet your brussel sprouts with a white sauce, pancetta, and caramelized onions would be a winner.

Hook me up with some of those brussels as a pizza topping and I'll split the pizza with you!
Tonight it was torn fresh mozz, jalapeno, and pineapple. That'll probably make someone mad but that's OK, because I enjoyed it and that's all that really matters haha

Now with this, you need to rank only the fruits shown. Yes, I'm sure you have favorites outside of this list, but for now, just use the list. Scores range from 1 - you're a savage. 10- you are enlightened.
Pineapple, Apple, Orange, Cherry, Plum, Peach, Pear, Cantaloupe, Blueberry
Peach, plum, pineapple, cantaloupe*, apple, pear, blueberry, cherry, orange
*cantaloupe is hugely dependent on when and where it's purchased. Too many times I've had bad cantaloupe that tastes like sweet dirt. But, when it's right, it's so good

SOLD
Can you imagine 27" for DC and 8" for Leesburg? What a gradient that'd be driving west on the toll road towards dulles.

From a longwave pattern perspective they are supportive. Can’t ask for a better ridge/trough alignment. Obviously not saying for a 950mb storm but a storm in general. But I did say this type of pattern will a epo ridge and deep eastern trough without blocking can open the door to amplified storms if you can get a phase.
Love when the Montana nose is sniffing the ridge up high

That's one of my favorite parts of a snowstorm. Not only does it change how everything looks, but it also changes how everything sounds

My memory clearly sucks, thanks guys. Here's what that looks like, in case you're curious. That mountain in the background is close enough to the radar site that it interferes with the radar beam.

Joined the Leesburg crew somewhat recently and ready to chime in with a first flakes ob. Getting about 10 flakes a minute, but it's a start

I totally get why some parts of the area require a flash flood watch. The storms have been so hit or miss this week though that some spots in the watch will be just fine, regardless of what happens tonight.
For example, the 15 corridor through most of Loudoun missed all week as storms died west of the area and then redeveloped in the eastern part of the county / Western part of Fairfax County.

I’ve got some serious mole issues in my yard lately . Maybe partially due to the cicada feast? What should I do about them?
Any updates and any luck getting rid of them?
I was doing some work around the yard and stumbled across this guy, which I believe is a vole. I also just had a few boxwoods suddenly drop leaves and go brown, which I thought was a watering issue. Guessing their demise was actually the work of voles.
Now comes the fun part of figuring out which of the suggested treatment options these voles will respond to.

Your backyard? That silt fencing should have had a drain area that would lead to that grate.
Wouldn't surprise me if they messed up the silt fencing. Lots of removing and reinstalling the other day when they were grading the lot, which I guess they'll have to do again tomorrow.
At least now I know that drain works, haha.

I can't remember the last time it felt so jungle-like out there. I guess it is the combo of the heat/humdity, the abundant rain, and the cicadas?
The plants around my yard are growing like crazy. Some huge thick weed grew like 5 feet in a couple days right out of a bunch of bushes I just trimmed in May and already need to be trimmed again. I have been finding tons of insects other than the cicadas all over the place too, weird ones I can't recall having seen before. Found a snake swimming in the pool and had some baby deer sleeping in the yard near the house. It's nuts outside now, just a cacophony of noise and wildlife.
I guess some of this might be that many other animals go nuts when the cicadas emerge and become more active to feed, that may be a part of it.
Totally agree. So many bugs out there, and so many that I've either never seen before or don't see often.
This thing was crawling on a wall the other day and must have been 3-4 inches long. No idea what it is, but it looked like something that shouldn't be messed with.

Same just happened in Leesburg, sleet is giving way to snow quickly. Looks like we're a bit ahead of schedule
